Though I did not place an order, I am eagerly waiting for the production release after which I hope FW2.0 for Z67ii will be released. Wishful thinking?

Guess by now some brand new Z9s are already in Nikon centers across the globe waiting for the release day. Air cargo from Thailand to Japan and then to the rest of the world will take extra days, transits, clearance, etc.

I may be wrong here generalising one event as the common global industrial practice. I bought a Japanese brand AV system made in my own country. The weird thing is, they cannot sell it directly to me. They have to export it to Japan and then re export it to my country. That only jack up the price, delay in sales, potential goods damage, etc.

Please share here when you get your BRANDS NEW Z9. Thanks.

I definitely think the release of FW version 2.0 will have more to do with when the Z6/Z7 III are going to be announced than the Z9. By that, I mean those are the products that update will impact, not the Z9.

If there is tracking to the degree that the initial rumors suggested added into the second gen bodies, I think that raises the bar for third gen bodies and lessens demand. I’m really curious about how Nikon is planning to play that. Once we can track subjects throughout the frame, I think it becomes much harder to sell people new cameras.

Maybe. My guess is, Z67 iii (say in 2023) will have Expeed 7 and that leaves Z67 ii in their own league. FW 2.0 update will not have a big impact on Z67 iii release in my view.

Well, it depends on what they can deliver with the firmware update. They delivered a statement with the Z9, but DSLR users are converting more and more, and need the bodies available at an affordable price. If the second gen bodies can’t get to a certain point quickly, they should make third gen bodies their top priority.

On second thought, dont think it will be Z67 iii with Expeed 7. Moving from Expeed 6 to 7 is a major move and thus it deserves its own model name and is not stuck with Z67.

Wonder in Nikon's past, have they introduced a major hardware improvement and stuck with an existing model family name?

Nikon is like any other company. If they think the old name is tainted they change the name. The D750 was basically a replacement for the D6xx.

On the firmware remember they're also working on the announced Z9 firmware. You'd think they'd be pushing harder on the announced Z9 update .

i doubt these ship by air, except a very few for promo purchases. It costs too much, are shipping these by the pallet. I doubt the first batch for the US market will fill an entire container.

But just think about it. The first Z9s are on a freighter right now. Actually they may be sitting in the road stead at the port of Los Angeles waiting to be unloaded.

The error in your thinking is that Nikon changed their “model name” scheme. No longer do we get D800, D810, D850. Or D3, D4, D5, D6.

We now get I, II, III, IV, etc. What you are suggesting is that the Z9 is stuck at Expeed 7 and they would need to release a Z10 to go to Expeed 8. No.

I think it's sort of hard to say, at the consumer level, who will get the first round of Z9 bodies. I suspect that Nikon Ambassadors had first pick already and are already shooting with them (and have been, at least with pre-production units) for some time now.

As for general consumers, it's hard to tell. I mean part of it depends on who you ordered it from, and their relationship with Nikon. I would suspect the first few people who pre-ordered through B&H might get there's before, say, some small mom & pop shop somewhere, since B&H probably also put in a blanket order for bodies when preorders for retailers opened. I'm not sure if NIkon does the similar thing that car mfrs do, where stores who move more inventory, tend to get larger allotments based on previous sales.

No way they are going on a container ship. No guarantee they get out of port. It’s not a big deal to ship pallets by airfreight.

Nikon may be trying to get all the Z9 to the local distributors at the same time to allow for a same day release / sales start date.

As for who gets them first NPS members could get them as an early release so that they have their Z9 in their hands on sales start date (rumor has it that is 15th Dec).

Everyone else the gets their shipped or picked up from 15th.

Who knows really however...

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a Z6/7 III in 2022. Even though the ii's will be 2 years old by then, they are just modified I's with a second processor and a few hardware expansions (eg 2nd slot & grip). They were likely designed very quickly, just to react to user feedback. The core architecture is the same as the I's, which will be 4 years old by that point.

My guess is that Nikon would have started designing the III's around the same time as the II's, in parallel to the Z9. The III's will be more of a major update and will push the Z6 to compete more directly with the R6, and the Z7 to compete more directly with the R5. And the clock is ticking--Nikon will want to capitalize on the positive response to the Z9, which will still not be the right fit for many users (while the R6 or R5 may be).

Both 2022 and 2023 are possible, but I'd guess Nikon is in a rush to get these out there and could do it by this time next year.

I couldn’t understand a thing he said🤣🤣🤣
Along with the saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, what he showed and said are basically the same. We know Z9's specs already.

I thought it is only a year warranty. He said 2 years! Better double-check my Z6ii warranty duration now.

I'd be pretty certain they go by air, also. Even at a hefty $25.00 per kg, that amounts to only around $30 total for Z9. Not much to pay on a $5500 product.

I pay much less than $25 per kg for my air freight even I these Covid times. Nikon USA would import pallets of gear totalling in many hundreds of kg if not a few tonnes at a time when you factor in lenses and other accessories.
