True, Dak. You motivated me to mess with it in DXO, but since it had been internally processed to JPG, it only improved marginally.

Well, I could not decipher a single additional title and the poodle's face deteriorated. Essentially it may have reduced noise in uniform areas but went a bit overboard in what it guessed to have been uniform. I rather doubt that working from raw you'd do all that much better, to be honest.

Yep. Looking forward to it. Did a lot of food shopping today. Wednesday will be cooking day. I always do some PA Dutch specialties, like dried corn and potato filling.

Always enjoy seeing your dogs Greg. Nice photos.

Don
Thanks, Don. They mean alot to us, too - other than just what they do in the field.

If it involves luck, I lose every time. I could be in a crowd of 100 people with 99 door prizes and be the one person who didn't win a door prize. But, if it involves skill or work, I tend to do better.

That is spectacular! Wow!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I slept through the whole thing, which was apparently visible here because the sky was relatively clear that night (I'm sure nothing like the clear skies you have in NM). It's hard to see much sky through the trees here in the woods, but we could have gone out into an open field or something. Oh well, yet another missed opportunity. It will happen again in 600 years - maybe I can catch it then.

You'll pardon me if I am not holding my breath till then.

Potato filling? Sounds yummy!

Well, he's kinda frozen and processed. :-) :-D Won him at the Thanksgiving turkey shoot at my gun club with a 50x50 score at skeet.

We are having quite a crowd for Thanksgiving - my favorite holiday. So, an extra turkey is appreciated. My daughter, Erika, is coming, along with her husband, Todd, and her son (my youngest grandson), TJ. We are hoping that her daughter (my oldest grandchild), Emma, will be discharged from the Marines in time to be home for Thanksgiving, but we don't yet know about that. Todd's parents, who have become good friends, will be coming. Also my deceased daughter, Colleen's, husband, Joe, and his two kids, Joe, Jr. and Charlotte, will be coming. Plus Nancy and me, of course. Lots of cooking. Lots of fun. Everybody is vaccinated. Looking forward to it!!!

Did some real hunting on Friday. Here are some snapshots from Friday's hunt. It was the perfect day - crisp and cool with a nice breeze.

Nice and sunny for most of the day.

The dogs did quite well. They have fully adapted to the small eastern covers after the vast spaces of Montana.

Birds were few and far between, but that's why they call it hunting, I guess. We hadn't seen a thing all day until a rooster flushed wild without any dogs around him about 125 yards out from me. So, we decided to check out the area to see if there were any more. Sure enough - the one shown below held for a point, but then flushed when I got within about 40 yards. It was a max range left to right crossing shot. We got lucky. The bird - not so much. At least, he got to be killed by the pretty Over/Under instead of the utilitarian auto I often use.

We went after the first bird - having seen the general area where he came down a few hundred yards away. Long story short - we got him pointed twice more, but when I got within 50-60 yards of the point, he flushed each time - no shot. I left him go after that, figuring he deserved to see another day. 🙂

Score for the day: Greg and Dawgs - 1; Birds - 2.

Nice pics Greg, I like the second one the best.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving gathering!

I'll see if I can catch the Thanksgiving parade here.

. . . well, you tell me.

It's my best, this fortnight, . . . :-)

It appears near total, in my photo, and, true to the predictions, it was very orange.

It was so cold those three hours. I went outside and there was a huge ring around the moon, with stars on the inside. But, I couldn't make it work for me. I tried everything to make an image containing it. The weather was not cooperating, but striations kept happening so I just went inside and thawed for a half hour and counted minutes until midpoint.

Then I went outside and started up my big lens, and my half frame camera. Together, they make a good telescope. Binocular resolution rocks but those are big light buckets that I can't afford, so what I heaved at it made sense. Then I had to retrain all of my muscles cuz the tripod wouldn't cooperate. My rig weighs a good five pounds.

So, I took frames at every conceivable combination, but, I basically kept reading the analog map. I got really lucky that the lens didn't fog pointed almost straight up. There was no wind; little tiny breezes. I even sat on my directors chair but it got really cold. I wore three layers; one of wool. What gloves?

When I was satisfied that I had enough for a near miss, I wrapped it up and dove for the computer room. Things are a lot different from a three inch screen to well, this big. My processor is the best for free. And, I'm just learning, but, highly encouraged by the steps that many of you take.

So, now that I've gone and written enough, I dedicate this to Mr. Bill Borne, and the Ten Crows, in dPR.
A very very nice pic! I would be very happy if I got that kind of image.

I like the greenish hue, it looks mysterious.

It's always a good morning when you walk out to surprises and realize they are there. I walked out to an eclipse a few days ago and didn't know it was supposed to happen. It was extra cool because it was a surprise.

You got a good shot and the color is really neat.

I went down to a local tourist spot and got some shots of masks the local gov has spent an unknown amount of money on. I ran into a local not 50 feet from the masks and the fact that there were faces were a surprise. Where the masks are displayed likely doesn't do them justice. From the main pic I took I realize there is a plaque that I have never read which I plan to go back and check out. Although the masks are detailed they aren't life size. Who ever produced them did a good job. The mounting plates all have the artists names on them.

The display is in a park at the bottom of the waterfalls in Almonte. This is what the complete display looks like.

I picked up an update for DXO Photolab with Black Friday sales and used it to process these individual mask shots. The individual masks are very impressive and the display doesn't do them justice at all.
