It's probably my first time to do BIF so successfully with the A1000!

Method: It has to be a sunny day, and you have one or more herons or egrets flying over a pond/lake over and over again (so that you have many opportunities to try). Use S Mode, ISO 100 (maybe 400 will be better, allowing higher shutter speeds), 1/1000s shutter speed, manual (wide) AF area mode (a big AF box at the center of the screen that you can aim at the bird and half-press shutter-release to set focus).

I'll do more BIF than kitten photography from now on!

Excellent! I never considered trying a BIF shot when I had my A1000 so I'm impressed by your success.

Excellent photo! The A1000 is not built for shooting BIF, so this is a great example of what the camera can do.
