Canon R6...alternate between two focus points?

Canon R5/R6 users...I'm shooting live theater and wish to move the focus point from the right side of the viewing area to the left and back quickly. I want to stay with spot focus if possible...eye detection is uncertain under stage light. Toggling takes time and is fiddly. Using the touch screen requires that I take my eye off of the VF. Much of the time, actors are facing each other on opposite sides of my viewing area at different distances, and I'd like to push a single button to alternate left/right to a preset focus point. Possible?

Turn the camera upside down. :)

Seriously, won't the camera just track the subject? Even my M6II will do this on a limited basis. I assume the R6 would do this splendidly.

It would take some practice and I don't do it myself but I believe it can be done using your thumb on the touch screen or joystick while keeping your camera to your eye.

That wouldn't work if they want to switch the focal point to a different subject while keeping the camera in a fixed position.

Oh, I see. You want to switch to the other actor. Of course.

Tracking with the thumb on the screen,, buttons/dial, or joystick. See p. 376 of the English-language user's manual. The directions are your friend.

Or center the spot with a button press, then move the camera to focus on the other actor, and track back to the desired position on the side. Or check the manual for moving the spot with buttons and dials.
