Fuji Remote Shutter cable differences

Just picked up the Fuji XT-20 and being a fan of long exposures, I'm looking for a cable release. Seems I have 3 options - 1.) Screw-in Cable for the shutter button (Have one - so all good). 2.) 2.5mm jack into the mic port and 3.) mini USB jack.

I realize I have a 4th option with the app, but that's just sucking battery from both camera and phone and is limited to only 30 seconds. I'd like several minutes for use with ND filters.

Is there any advantage to using the 2.5mm vs. the USB jack? I see a variety of each one on the auction site. What does the USB version control that the 2.5mm jack doesn't?

I had tried the cable from the GH4 which is a 2.5mm, but that didn't work at all. Seems the GH4 version is a 4 pole, while Fuji is 3 pole.

I also have several wireless remotes on hand where I can replace the cable to suit the camera, but am unable to find a 2.5mm to USB cable anywhere. If anyone has any links, I'd be grateful. This would give me a wireless option so I can trigger from a distance for wildlife use.

Thanks in advance, Q.

I got some <$10 thing from B&H w/ 2.5mm plug on it. Maybe Vello brand? Super simple button w/ slide lock. I'd have concern about pulling on the USB connector over time

I also have these interests and problems. I used to use hanumel but my old wireless shutter release doesn't work on the new XT2. I want something simple that will let me walk away from camera and tripod, so I can shoot less obtrusively. And Long Exposures are near and dear to my heart. I've heard maybe an old cannon piece of gear might work. I need something much more specific. Please, if you have "real data", then share. None of that "fake" data for us ehh?😋😋

I have both the 2.5mm and mini USB type, cheap ones from ebay, agreed the 2.5mm jack is stronger than the mini USB but I cannot get a half press to autofocus working with it, possibly due to the price point but the similar priced mini USB does the half press OK.

I'm using a canon RS-60ES shutter release , from my 70D which does the job . It can be locked off in bulb mode to suit exposure.

I think I would feel more comfortable with 2.5mm jack from wear & tear perspective. It's a design that's been around for a while and feels more robust than the USB jack.

Yes, the one for GH4 and Fuji are different.

I (obviously) use SMDV RF-905. It's the same one that fits on Pentax cameras as well as certain Canon cameras.

Not sure what kind of distance you are thinking about, but from my personal experience, the RF-905 is quite reliable within about 50 yards. There are some other options that can do much greater distance, but would cost a bit more. Some pro sports shooters use FlashWave-4 to remotely trigger their cameras.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm curious for myself. I have the X-E4 and the app works for most cases. I'm interested in a cable release or one of the wired remotes for street photography, in instances when the camera is around my neck and I want to be a bit more stealthy in my approach. It might be a total failure, but it's something I want to try.

Does anyone recommend a particular threaded cable or a third party remote?

From what I gather, the Fuji remotes are the best, though more expensive.
