They have people working in the company for 30+ years and not many cameras are made each year. Enjoy! :-)

Another reason for the high price is that Hasselblad cameras, like Leicas or Novoflex accessories, are made in Europe, where wages are much higher than in Japan, China, Thailand, etc.

Sigma also have 30+ years employees and make cameras in much smaller numbers than Canon or Sony, but their prices, while getting higher, are not as astronomical as those of Hasselblads or Leicas.

Are you serious about Japan?

Now, if Nike starts making its shoes in Sweden instead of China, do you think they would be successful selling them at double the already inflated prices?

They are - as they always have been - well engineered, top-of-the-line cameras - that have always been over-the-top expensive. That isn't going to change so spend the money on new or buy used.

  1. Less numbers sold
  2. They have larger sensor
  3. Company is in Europe where as mentioned above wages are high for employees
I'd say Leica is far expensive than hasselblad.

When I first started as a photographer, I heard about a Hasselblad rep coming into my favorite camera store and taking the viewfinder off his personal camera, placing it on the floor and standing on it. Then he reassembled the camera and took photos with it. A solid chunk of metal.

Not making Hasselblad any favors with this post, but if people only knew how much of that feeling you can already get with used, older CCD models...

I've got mine for 16 grand BR$ (Brazilian cash) last year, a 31mp model, which is by far the best colors and skin tones I've ever had, second to none.

For you guys I suspect the same camera would be 2.5k USD or so, insanely cheap for First world citizens.

And as blunt as that may sound, if you know what you're doing and chasing quality of light, key word: light that has quality in the first place, you will be wowed to no end with these CCD options.

And cheap. Extremely cheap for such a large sensor, and such a distinct feeling / experience.

Sorry Hassy for making your life tougher :D

These super expensive newer models are not required to get that special feeling.
