Tamron have announced that a G2 of the 28-75mm f2.8 is coming but also that a 35-150mm f2-2.8 is also on the way.

What do you all think folks?
As apsc shooter, for me would be more interesting smaller (and probably cheaper) f2.8-4 version with stabilisation. But in general I'm a fan of non-traditional focal ranges, so standing ovations from my side anyway :-)

PS: is somewhere comparison of amount of lens releases on each mount? Sony seems to crushing others in this area.

PS2: only if you compare Sony lenses, they have app. double the lens releases. An because of good support from Tamron, Sigma, Samyang and others, the difference is huge!

Looks great, always good to have different options. :-)

Sony have taken the right approach, bring 3rd parties into your platform and naturally you will sell more bodies.

I don’t know what on earth Nikon and Canon are thinking by having little/no 3rd party support on their mounts.

They are obviously thinking that having people buy only their brand of lenses is more profitable than selling bodies only and having people buy from 3rd-party.

Maybe managment's mentality is the same as when they were running DSLRs or that canikon is too small to lose profits from their native line up.

That 35-150 would be a walkaround dream come true lens.
Probably yes, if you are OK with size/weight. Personally I see camera+lens setup over roughly 1kg as too heavy for "walkaround" purpose.

That is a very risky strategy. Canon are releasing bodies and lenses at a much slower pace than Sony are. On top of that the 3rd parties on emount are also releasing lenses faster than Canon are on RF which just leads to the rapid growth of the emount eco system. Some of the prices for RF glass are absolutely ridiculous when compared to equivalent/near equivalent 3rd party options on Sony.

For example in the UK (prices include tax)

Canon RF 100-500 RF = £2979

on emount

Sony 100-400 GM = £2149

Tamron 150-500 = £1379

Sony 200-600 = £1599

Sigma 100-400 = £899

Sigma 150-600 = £1199

Someone can buy both Sigma lenses for £2100 and have over £800 spare.

I wish the 28-75 were a slower 24-xx or even 22-xx.

Hmm, I've been on both sides of that fence, I'd been kinda lusting after a MILC version of the slower DSLR 35-150 f2.8-4 tho and the range still seems so ideal to me (paired with the 17-28) that I'm willing to give it a try... It would allow me to skip having anything in between altogether which realistically saves on total weight in my bag, just not so much in my hand.

I'm pretty excited for the 35-150, it looks a little longer than the 70-180, hopefully it's still around 6" and not >1kg. Price will determine whether my wallet opens up spontaneously for a pre-order or whether I wait out reviews, heh, I've been wanting something with this range ever since I started looking at FF teles at all.

I am most likely going to get this. Event lens that would get 90% of the work done.

Vaporeware designed to keep you from buying a competing product before the new Tamron becomes available. You don't see too much of this type of advance advertising.
Tamron typically makes good on its announcements.
