I have only one problem with it, and that's that I didn't take it 😉
Me too :-) Exactly there is only two chance a year under clean weather in time. It may be almost impossible. On this evening I tried to SL with sun but he had a trouble....wind blow was so strong....

Have a good luck

Are you sure, it seems quite calm in this version ;)

Thank you for sharing how you created the 'calm' version. I enjoy your train photographs - they are outstanding, and I am glad you participate in these threads!

Larry Rexley-san Thank you for your comment but I did not created the calm version which was recreated happily by Lan-san....from the wavy version :-) Probably Lan-san inverted the sky area but I could not understand how it was operated.....

Best Regards

martianphoto-san Nice capture :-)

You gave the station name Reigate, so I visit there at

https://www.google.co.jp/maps/@51.2...NluepSDL7PIAy0L7XDPA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=ja

I think it may be best view from the overpass but your capture has a lot of information as the landscape. I have a dream to get image of the lovely steam engine from the bridge and crossing.

Have a nice day

Thank you Hamada-San

I chose the platform for the shot for several reasons. The bridge and signal box are still old infrastucture and quite attractive - hence the framing.

The line is shielded to some degree by the trees as the sunlight tends to run into the camera lens by afternoon. This becomes more difficult during the winter of course.

I understand your comment about using the bridge as a viewpoint but the shot would then be a very narrow point of view with heavy vegetation on both sides. With a loco under heavy power the shot may be obscured by smoke and steam hanging in the cutting.

The summit of the line on this stretch is reached much further back towards the bridge in the distance meaning the loco tends to be under less power as it approaches Reigate.

Further back the line is also in a deeper cutting, It can be done, but it is as much personal preference of course

To illustrate I am uploading a crop from the first of the shots in the sequence which may be of interest.

The first bridge is about 400metres distant and the second around 600metres

Thank you for your reply and discussion with you :-)

Yes I understand your thought and I am happy I hear your stance for railway photo.

> the loco tends to be under less power as it approaches Reigate.
I think it is the most problem in this point, so we could not expect a lot of smoke :-) along such long climbing railway ...

I like telephoto lens, so at this point I would like to choose 20-200 F2.8 using serial shutters or 300mmF4....

I find one more bridge at background and do we stand at that bridge? :-)

Have a much smoke

Yesterday I tried to get more interesting train photos: I rode my bicycle to get shots of the Amtrak train coming over the low trestle on the Tampa Bypass Canal (in both directions as the train turns around and goes back the same way).

I got more than I wished! I discovered an overpass over the Tampa CSX Yeoman yard, and caught a total six different trains around Tampa on my bike ride, including a Union Pacific locomotive that was far afield and a phosphate train headed to the port at Rockport yard, going over a different trestle!

The freight trains move slowly, about 15-20 miles/hour, but the Amtrak Silver star flies across that trestle in about 2 seconds, so you have to be really prepared -- and use a fast enough shutter speed!

Very nice set of trains. I like especially the phosphate train in reflection and also the last viewing the entire image of the train.

I envy you enjoying train photo by bicycle :-)

Have a lot of wind on bicycle
