Just got a notice that my order from Dell will be delayed until
11/28 (originally promised to ship on 10/31).
Idiots... How hard is it to keep track of inventory?
I used the Dell Chat, and "Samuel" was next to useless. Here's how our conversation went:

{Craig Taranto 11:42:59 AM} I ordered this item on 10/28/03 and the Dell site it would ship same day. Now it says it will ship 10/31/03. But the status says "InProduction", which links to "Delayed Item". When is my item going to ship?
{Samuel 11:43:13 AM} .Can I have your order number please?
{Craig Taranto 11:43:37 AM} XXXXXXXXX
{Samuel 11:44:03 AM} Please give me a moment while I pull up your record.

{Samuel 11:44:15 AM} Currently one or more items are not available. Every effort is being made to complete your order.
{Samuel 11:44:23 AM} .I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
{Samuel 11:44:41 AM} Is there anything else that I can assist you with?

{Craig Taranto 11:44:58 AM} That's just a copy of what the web site says. Is it going to ship today?

{Samuel 11:45:33 AM} I apologize but I do not have any estimated shipping date for your order.

{Craig Taranto 11:45:56 AM} So the web site is wrong stating it will ship on or before 10/31/03.

{Samuel 11:46:57 AM} I apologize but there is no expected shipping date available for your order.
{Samuel 11:47:18 AM} Is there anything else that I can assist you with?

{Craig Taranto 11:47:37 AM} If you can't answer my first question, then there's really nothing else to ask.

{Samuel 11:47:46 AM} I apologize for the displeasure caused by the problem you are having.

So I emailed Customer Care, asking them to not give me back canned responses. They replied within 10 minutes, stating that they experienced an unexpected delay, and it would be shipped around 11/28/03.

Bummer. This was ~$100 cheaper than I paid at CircuitCity (still within the 14 day return policy). I guess I'll just keep the one I have.

Airborne Express is supposed to be "Express", but for some reason, they are being the slowest shipper in the world.

10/27/03 Airborne Express picked up the Camera from Dell
10/28/03 Camera is in transit
10/29/03 Camera is at sorting facility in Wilmington, Ohio
10/30/03 Camera is at sorting facility in Wilmington, Ohio
10/31/03 Camera is at sorting facility in Wilmington, Ohio

What's up with Airborne Express holding my camera in their sorting facility for 3 days?

Hello Everyone,

I ordered my Canon Digital Rebel on the 28th of October and it was suppose to be shipped on or before the 31st of October. I was horrified to find in my email box this morning that my order had been delayed until 11/28. I promptly went to "My Account" and checked my order on Dell's website, only to find that it HAD been shipped out today as promised with a tracking number. I don't know why Dell would send out a delayed shipment message when in fact it had been shipped! I don't know if this helps any, but I also orderd a 512 MB compact flash card with it and I chose "next day air." As you may have already guessed I received the compact flash card the next day after I ordered it. Nothing like getting the cart ahead of the horse...I have a compact flash card now that I can't use until my camera gets here!

Best of luck to everyone else who got in on this deal.

I had a positive experience, although the shipping time on the item page changed to 3 weeks within about 2 minutes after I ordered mine. I placed my order on 10/29, it shipped on 10/30, and it should arrive on Monday, 11/3.

These units are actually shipping from Ingam Micro in Memphis, and I'm sure that Ingram is fulfilling ordres for mutiple parties. That being said, Dell should have a real-time communication with Ingram that is 100% accurate.

I ordered on the 28th of October as well. Mine was in production for several days and now it says shipped today (10/31). Should have it by Monday. Great news! I also used a $25 off coupon code in addition to the 10% off and the total came to $874 shipped.

I also ordered mine on the 28th, but it's delayed by a month. What mystereous algorithm do they use to process their orders?

--get it a lot sooner. My was saying a later shipping date then on wed. I checked and it was just shipped and I got it the next day. Can't beat Airborne they always seem to be ahead or right on time.

Ummm... Dell has no actual "inventory"... they are selling the camera to you and then getting it fullfilled from one of several distributors.

The distributor might tell Dell that they are getting 500 cameras in in 3 days so Dell can list on the online form that they can ship within 1-2 days and then 1000 orders come in and Dell can't fullfill them all.

Or the distributor who promised 500 only gets 100 from Canon.

Look, you saved a lot of money on the camera, if you want it same day then go find a local retailer who has it and pay an extra $150 or more (price and tax diff) and get it there.

You can't have your cake and eat it too ya know.

I just checked the Dell web site and my order was just filled and shipped at 4:30 pm central time. I ordered on the afternoon of the 28th.

Look, I paid the price they were asking for this camera that was spposed to be in stock and shipped the next day. I kept my part of the deal and I just want Dell to keep their part. I don't think that I'm asking too much.

I don't think that routine "unexpected delays" should be acceptable.

I forgot to mention I also got the email that said my order was delayed until 11/28, but it shipped today anyway. I have a tracking number, so it's for real.

Interstingly enough, I just logged into Dell's site (seeing all these messages about shipping Rebels). The main status page still says "InProduction", clicking on the order number shows "will ship on or before 10/31/03", but clicking on "InProduction" shows a page that says "Shipped" with an Air Borne tracking number (which shows nothing at AirBorne probably because it was shipped late this afternoon).

I guess my number was picked out of a hat. Glad I didn't cancel.

I ordered the digital Rebel Kit Last October 24 (afternoon) for $899 free shipping!

They told me its gonna arrive Oct.29 and it did through Airborne Express!

I received the email indicating the camera would be shipped on the 28th of November as well, but like others here, when I checked online, it was already assigned an airborne express tracking number.

I'm wondering if we all have the same tracking numbers and this is just another Dell "mistake"?
The last 4 digits of my tracking number are: xxxxxxxx6860

...but still nothing showing on Airborne Expresses site. Hopefully tomorrow.

Same here, mine is different too. I first noticed a tracking number around 10:20 a.m. PST and have been trying all day to track it, only to find that it wasn't posted yet...or either its an invalid number! Take your pick, anything is possible with Dell! heheeh

I have a tracking number too. Shipped on 10/27.
Guess what:
Airborne tracking shows:
10/27 Picked up from Dell
10/28 No new status
10/29 At sorting facility in Ohio
10/30 At sorting facility in Ohio
10/31 At sorting facility in Ohio

What in the world can Airborne Express be sorting for 3 whole days?
