I took several outdoor shots with my S-10 and noticed that there were annoying streak lines in the blue sky. What is this? Is this artifect or pixel problem?

Check the pictures at this site. From the 7th image, you can enlarge the image to a full screen size.

I haven't seen your pictures, but I had "streaks" as well using my camera. I returned
it as defective to camera world. Anyone else have similar problems?

Those are definitely JPEG compression artifacts.
They show up in the street as well.

I have had no such problems with my S10, shooting in the Automatic "Fine" compression mode and Large (1600x1200) image size. If you shot using "Normal" mode, try using "Fine".

If you edited the image on your computer, try saving at a higher quality setting. Also, if you edit and save a JPEG multiple times, the quality will degrade.

Good luck.

Sorry, I see nothing glaringly wrong with this picture. You guys should stop looking at your photos with microscopes and go out, take pictures.

Have fun!

Just to follow up. Mine was not a JPEG problem. The streak was always in the same spot

on both the LCD and on the images regardless of what you were taking a picture of. The salesman at camera world agreed that it was defective.

Hide,

Michael Newman's comments are correct -- what you're seeing in that particular photo are JPEG artifacts. They might have occurred while you were editing the photo, but were probably not in the original image as recorded by the camera, at least not to that extent. Try again and if you have the chance, take the same kind of shot at all 3 compression settings to see the differences in the way that broad areas of even tone, such as blue sky, are recorded.

I saw horizontal lines every 7th line in some pictures I shot with an S-10 about a month ago (I returned the camera). I posted some notes about it here at that time.
I think it's a defect, though Chuck Westfall disagreed.
