And they claim it will be sent this week. I called yesterday and they say they are in stock like they told me when I wanted to exchange the camera. It just seems that there is something fishy here about sending him a replacement. But they did say they will refund his money although at the price he paid I think $719 and then sell him another at much more cost.

Dell only have one focus, to remain the no 1 suppler of PCs, that's what they do, and continuely do well.

Digital Camera is priced at a considerable discount and loss of profit in order to attract future PC business. For example, it has already generated enough attentions on this forum.
I've long since forgot about the 2 weeks I had to wait for my 300D,
but still enjoy the fact that I paid $720 + tax.

If you need a camera in a timely manner it's best to shop elsewhere.
After my last experience with Dell, I don't think I'll ever
recommend them to anyone I know purchasing a computer or
peripheral. Their customer service has gone in the toilet (first
hand and experience my sister has had with her new computer), and I
just don't like their business practices in general. I was in the
batch of people who ordered my Digital Rebel from the Small
Business site with coupons well before the deadline, but because
they drained the inventory and chose not to restock it for SB (yet
Home is now carrying them?), I got screwed out of the deal.

would you be happy to pay higher prices for technology goods if the jobs were all u.s. based??

one of the reasons we are able to get such amazing prices on tech goods here is the competitive climate and drive for cost efficiencies which forces jobs overseas.

go to europe and see what they pay for equivalent goods, you will be shocked....

I am not talking about manufacturing I am talking about white collar services and infrastructure jobs. Accounting and HR too.

Many of the companies doing the offshoring are turning in record profits so the "we need to do this to be competitive" argument doesn't wash with me.

It just looks like greed.

Gonna be cuttin it close for me as I'm out of town on the 11th.

But I guess that's what I get for ordering on the last day of a discount sale!

:(
A question to those who ordered the Rebel from Dell in the evening
of Oct 25 or later (with the 10% discount): have you received a
shipping notice yet?

I, too, received a notice today that my order is being pushed back until 11/7. What are the chacnces that it will be delayed again?

Dell pulled the 300D from their site today. They usually do this when they have backorders on a product.

Several websites advertised this bargain on the camera and in all likelihood Dell took 1000's of orders over the weekend.

From my previous experience Dell will fill the orders but it could take as long as a month.

I just called 8 different shops in the Denver area and all of them are completely back ordered.

This could mean that Canon is changing something in the fab of the camera (introducing new firmware, etc) or just that they are between runs in production.

So it might not be as bad as it seems, Dell could get a bunch of cameras in first thing next week.

Mine has also been delayed. I wonder if it is worth waiting. If it really does go out by Nov 7th that isn't too bad, but beyond that it isn't worth waiting for.

I ordered early Monday morning but had not received a notice of delay. My order still shows will ship by October 30. I wondering if the lack of notice means it will ship or that I am tp be delayed beyond November 7?

Only time will tell, but from the glowing reports regarding the 300D, I am anxious to get one in my hands.

Dell is backordered so you will be waiting too I think.

--been shipped out today so I would suggest looking at your order status. Mine was still delayed at 8PM tonight so it was a big surprised to see it shipped.

They are actually probably making a small profit ($30-$50 even after free shipping) on the camera.

I doubt that there is only 10% margin on the camera, especially for a monster like Dell that buys hundreds or even thousands of these cameras at a time.

I have a buddy who is a store manager at a BB in Arizona, I will see if I can find out what dealer cost on the camera is sometime this week.

Actually, the Super-D3ll deals eralier was at a 30% discount on the camera ($720 is hardly a 10% off of list $999).

At this price i think D3ll lost money, and i think it was hardly intentional.

I'd be interested to see the dealer cost though.

Just got a notice that my order from Dell will be delayed until 11/28 (originally promised to ship on 10/31).
Idiots... How hard is it to keep track of inventory?
