Thanks for the efforts Kobie,

Do I assume that you shot this on the crop mode ? It's showing 15mp on the images.

For the most part i'm seeing the images sharp until the Gull goes overhead....

The image quality when viewed on my 40 inch screen TV and zoomed in to 100% doesnt show a lot of detail ... i suppose that's due to jpeg in crop mode and i'm asking too much.

Keep it coming.

Rob

Yes, those were in crop mode I suppose. I kept switching back and forth.
The one below is full res.

The lighting was pretty bleak so there's not much detail to be had unfortunately.

Great effort and great results. My k1ii with f*300 is blind when photographing seagulls and frozen from the first shot. This k3iii is a big wide leap in Pentax AF system.

Looks like a good sequence, now how about a crop of the birds head for every shot so one can see the detail without having to click the original for each photo. That is if its not too much to ask, if it is don't worry about it, just a consideration.

Not sure if you're exaggerating or if you're not using AF-C?

Nice shots!

Thanks for the sequence.

Looking at exiftool, AF adjustment is [-5] I notice. Maybe that could account for none of the images being super sharp. AF adjust can be very tricky with super-zooms.

Plus FYI, I'm pretty sure that you do not need 'Diffraction Correction' and 'Chromatic Aberration Correction' enabled in your JPEG settings if your priority is AFC and fps. Either one will slow things down.

Well, I'd hope my AF setting is at - 5 since that's where I set it to for now.

I tweak my camera as I go and I'm still getting much better bursts than I ever could on my K-3 with everything enabled with K-3 III. Lens corrections apply to jpeg. Until DxO gets the camera into DxO Photo lab, I'll be uploading SOOC jpegs since I don't like how DCU5 deals with raws compared to DxO.
I switched to DNG for the time being.

I tried dcu5 but... No, not possible :-D

........ very generous comments I'd say !!

Could you please comment how many shots would be worse with some other Pentax camera?

None of the images you show are what I would consider sharp .. BUT .. this can be for various reasons (lens, conditions, motion blur etc.) .. so I'd like to know how much improved you think tracking is on this camera?

Also .. why did you shoot in crop mode? This can be beneficial for JPGs, but you save raw files, no? Be aware that the raw files are the same as in normal mode, so you save no space, the camera is not faster. The reason I'm mentioning this is that according to this video, it looks like the camera takes less shots in a burst in crop mode (not sure why):

Best,

Marek

Hmmm. Thanks for these. They are not that sharp, frankly. Very little detail. I suspect the focus is OK, but maybe the lens is not at its best at 300mm, and shooting in crop mode is not the best way of demonstrating anything. I think we have to wait for more definitive demonstrations.

If you pixel peep for sharpness at 100% then crop mode has no influence at all.

Anyway we want to show focusing, not lens sharpness. At 300mm wide open my 55-300 PLM is never sharper than this.

If people want to offer 150-450 to early owners we certainly won't complain 😁😁😁

You need to get a better lens!
