I hope to see and upgrade to the A7C compact camera. Actually I love using my A7C and hope to maintain the compact size while enhancing some of the features. I find I could benefit from a sensor with more mega pixel in support of larger files in crop mode.
  1. I really like the Form Factor / Compact Size
  2. I really like the Dials, Buttons and Layout
  3. I really like the Menu
  4. Actually I like the EVF when I add my modified eyecup
  5. I would hope for is a new Sensor with more mega pixels for Cropped Mode
  6. I would like to see a Tilt LCD
  7. I would like to see an improved EVF (larger / higher magnification)
Appreciate comments from other A7C users.

The A7C was released in what, October 2020?

So 2023 or 2024 is a likely answer to your question.

Yep, I realize timing is important (and maybe a long wait). Although, IMHO, Sony has released the A7C into a unique market (enthusiasts). Maybe not an upgrade to the A7C (too soon) but find it desirable to release a second higher level compact ILCE model with the same form factor / compact size (hope so).

Depends upon how well the A7c sell.

If the camera is a big hit then an upgraded and more expensive one might come sooner. Sony seems to know how to benefit from a successful design.

Anyway - the A7c is the most pleasing digital camera I have ever used, and I have been into this game since the first digital ones were launched. And happily 24MP cover my needs.

Would not mind a 40 50 60 MP A7cII - would most likely just get one.

Thanks for reply and thoughts. I have also been in the digital camera game for years. I think we are in the same mind sent and yes I would definitely purchase an A7CII with a larger mega pixel sensor.

If the photo gods were listening if they put a sensor inside that would crop to 20+MP with my APS-C lenses with IBS I would buy two. I only shoot work with my full frame cameras but I love to use my 6500 for shooting on the street. On the street "eyes" see the larger camera but the crop sensor usually gets a pass plus the physical size and weight of the full frame lenses that I like to use keep me away from lugging it around for 8+ hours while walking. I see it coming soon but how soon is the question.

IMHO. it's not a matter of if but when. It would also remain to be seen what enhancements Sony can cram into a small / compact body. A small / compact body to serve as my FF and APS-C would be great.

I know it wouldn’t suit you but thinking about an A7C led me to discover that it’s about the same size as an A7R and 10% heavier. The A7R is a bit of a dog as a camera, but it has a wonderful 36Mpix sensor and I’ve been enjoying using it more with my smaller primes, not just the CV 15/4.5 it normally has glued to it.

Given it's a cousin to the A7iii, I'd expect many features of A7iv will carry over to A7Cii, including the rumored 32mp sensor.

Yep, I hope you're right. A larger sensor should help with size of file in crop mode. I definitely enjoy FF but would also like the ability to get a decent file size when shot in crop mode (with my compact body).

Hope they keep the minimalistic design. Nuff buttons on the A7c and a few more than needed on my A7III. Set up, aim and shoot - find the A7c brilliant as it is.

In my world 24 is a lovely number, and so is 32 or 36 or 40 or 50 too... :-D

Hope a next A7c will materialize to more than a rumored image sensor....

I have been shooting with the A7C for a couple of weeks now and I must say I really enjoying it. I had plenty of different cameras the last 4 years, from Canon 5D mark II, Canon EOS RP, X-T3, Sony A7III, Nikon Z6, a6400 and recently purchased the A7C.

For the first time in a long time I´m really really found a sweet spot regarding cameras. Small and compact but with flawless AF, something I found in the a6400 too, but now with that great sensor (important to me when living up in the Arctic Circle with winters with constant darkness).

Improvement for the future?
* Maybe as some already mention, a higher mpx sensor to make it the ideal FF/Crop sensor camera when needed, but on the other hand the files get bigger regarding storage and more demanding for the computer in post.
* A control dial on the front, even if I think the ergos are pretty good thanks to the dedicated exp comp dial, it could come in handy in some situations.
* 2 SD card slots, even if I dont missing it, I think that the camera would be more appealing to a broader market with that.

But overall already a wonderful camera I hope potential buyers dont overlook.

Not necessarily. I can certainly see a a7C R coming out before then and that could solve the OP's issue with this first gen body. I am hoping for this too, since I like the a7C.

Thank you for your comments. Actually, you may be looking for more of an upgrade than I. I have used cameras with the front control dial but find the A7C w/o being a great fit for me. I use the rear control dial for aperture and the rear control wheel for shutter. I have a 128GB memory card installed which is fine (no need for a second card for me). I have been shooting RAW for many years and not really used the exposure comp dial (I will experiment with that).

I agree, the A7C is a true pleasure to use (love it).

Oh, what I wouldn't give to be taking photos where you live.

I creatively upgraded my A7C by putting the tiny 28-60 zoom on my A9. Now I have a somewhat heavier but still acceptably light powerhouse camera with the flexibility of a zoom which is incredibly light.

I like the A7C compactness, and I seriously considered getting one over an XT4, but it sacrifices so much... sony really cheaped out when cutting corners, so you end up with bargain-basement evf and lcd. Sony also did their usual trick of protecting their other camera-body sales, so you don't get 10bit video (I actually wouldn't be surprised if the A7iv also only had 8-bit, just so they can keep selling the Siii for a big markup).

Still keeping an eye out for an A7Cii though, one day. Cool compact full frame is a great thing, shame there's not more of them.

How do you think an A7CII would do with an A9II EVF, 50mp sensor and Tilt LCD?

So much they can do with the compact FF (why not).

Better EVF and 50mp sensor would be great. Tilting LCD would be a step back though imo. It just needs the LCD from the XT4.

but they did not cheap out in terms of AF and IQ, which really matters to me. FF IQ and great AF in a body lighter and smaller than the XT4.

Only IQ in stills, the IQ for video is significantly worse. The difference in video IQ is a lot bigger than the difference between FF and APSC for stills.

FF IQ adds up to one stop, and so it generally depends on what lenses you pick. f/1.8 lenses technically give you a very small boost, but really you'd need the f/1.4s to make it significant.

Plus in some situations where IBIS can work for you, the IBIS on apsc (or m43) sensors will easily gain you an extra stop over the A7C ibis (which is reviewed as being pretty poor), so there's a lot of swings and roundabouts.

Autofocus though, for sure, if you do a lot of continuous-focus motion tracking like... sports, and birding maybe, then the sony AF system is just unbeatable. But personally I prefer the better build/evf/lcd/video quality/IBIS. It's just a lot more for your money. But this is for me personally, as I use the video features and the ibis and etc etc. If all you do is take still photos of birds or kids running fast, then the A7C is pretty much unbeatable. (until the A7iv comes out anyway).
