Was really hoping for small raw. I am wondering if its not going to happen.

With the A7iv A coming out who knows. I might monitor the Sony rumors site.

Even with compressed lossless that would be pretty awesome. Those 120 MB files are killer

What frame rate would you be willing to accept to get lossless compressed RAW? I have a suspicion that the CPU in the A7R IV might take a while to generate them.

I admit I usually shoot single-shot on the A7R IV, so maybe I wouldn't be heartbroken if it took a second to compress the file, but I can imagine the whinging we'd hear. I might even grizzle a bit myself if I missed a shot a half second later because the camera was still compressing the first one.

I won't be surprised if lossless compressed is confined to the next generation using the new CPU.

I doubt it. I suspect you already have the closest you'll get in APS-C mode.

The A7R IVa still uses the same CPU, and I don't believe it has the grunt to handle small raw.

Yeah. It's pretty obvious that lossless compressed RAW is tied to the biggest BIONZ performance bump in 5-6 years.

A7R4 was actually the previous biggest bump, but still only a 20% bump, not the insane bump we saw with the A1 and S3.
