Yeah, I got the I want it bug in the end.

My current equipment is Pentax KP and K-1

I think I am going to keep my DA 15, FA 31 and FA 77 for Pentax shots to be used on the K-3iii.

Sell my Zeiss ZK 28 F2, DA 50-135 and maybe my FA* 50 1.4.

On the other side of the fence I have a Fuji X-T4 and some adapted glass I have been using for birding, but after seeing what the Canon R6 can do... yeah, Fuji is not cutting it.

So I think I am going to trade my Fuji gear for Canon for birding and pair down my Pentax kit to APS-C only stuffs for my more thoughtful and artsy work; keeping the Canon for birding and anything demanding top line AF...

I Think.

I need less gear around for sure, so much stuff just sits haha. The call of the K-3iii wins out of FF in Pentax land to me.

Hope I don’t sound crazy!

Sounds like a plan Mike. The photo I've see at high is impressive. I might be tempted to do the same.!

Would you sell on e-Bay or here?

Here first, then local store for trade in if needed

And this coming from a 645Z and K1mkII user.

For a great deal if not the majority of amateur, and some pro, shooting, this new camera is superior.

Why you need Pentax? Sell it all and keep only Canon.

And if you have fast focusing Canon, why selling K-1 and buying K-3 III? You have 31 and 77, those are best on FF camera.

Makes no sense to me .. both KP and K1 are great unless you need fast AF.

Whatever plan you have you will have one set of people saying "I see your logic" (dividing into "and agree" and "but disagree") and another set not.

I wouldn't be in any rush to go from FF back to crop. Especially if there is a new K1 around within a year. Those who kept one foot on the APS-C side might find going back to all APS-C works better for them than going 100% FF. For me - I'm committed to FF for the time being . Those who choose differently to me aren't mad :-)

Because I love them and can’t part with them 😜

Nothing wrong with that. I like everything I've seen so far. I'm just waiting on more reviews that talk about AF tracking performance before I take the plunge. :-D

Hi Mike,

Your plan sounds reasonable to me. What can the Canon R6 do that Fuji can't? Would K3-iii be able to also fill the your wildlife need?

Hey Mike

I have been shooting Canon and Pentax cameras together for over a decade and am looking forward to outings with the K3 III and the R5 that I got last fall. The Canon is as good as advertised and I’m sure the K3 III will be as well.

Mike has the ltd 77 and 31 and plans to keep them. If anyone can explain how you can discard 5/9 of the image area and digitize what's left with 2/3 of the number of pixels and get more information in the image, we'd love to hear it.

The K3-iii is impressive on the noise front, but with the K1 I have not unlearned everything from the 1970s to the early 2010s which said ISO 1600 was "extreme". In poor light I'm reluctant to use 3200 and 6400 and don't use ISO 12,800 and above. Noise doesn't get cited as a limitation on the K1 - quite the reverse.

In the same way I don't use the "high" fps setting on the K1 so faster FPS is not superior for me.

The AF is better but does that beat a bigger sensor ? Depends what you shoot, big out of focus pictures aren't any use. If the existing AF does the right thing bigger sensor is preferable.

K-3 III is good for people who want fast AF for sport, BIF, wild-life etc. If that is not your priority then KP/K70 is good as small body/lens combination and K-1 with FF lenses for better image quality, and pairing it with all the old FF glass.

I see that some Pentax fans got a bit carried away and think that the K-3 III is magically better in IQ than K-1 or any other cameras (or at least comparable). Sure, for its size, K-3 III is great! But to replace K-1 with K-3 III to get better IQ is not a good idea, especially if you want to shoot with 31/77 ltd.

My K1 is something I would never sell. And I still have doubts that K3iii would add so much to my options as photographer, that I think about waiting for the next steps Pentax plas for further development or if I should buy K3iii, now.

That is my only last holdup more reviews

Not what I was saying. He's already got the K1 and wasn't going to get rid of it. But he was specifically citing birding as a use-case. The K3III wil be better in that respect, possibly by a wide margin, because of the other things the camera will do (if it performs as promised).

Don't think for a second I will be trading my 645Z and K1mkII in for a K3mkIII for my use-cases---not for one second! But I don't shoot anything that moves, except water and screens in museum settings. I've never quite gotten the interest in birding photography, or youth sports, but that's just me. But I might be interested in this new camera if the video is decent.

So, for what Mike wants to do, this new camera may be just the ticket, and for that use will be superior (if it's all it's cracked up to be). And I don't advise going into another system if you don't really have to. I've done that and still have to at work, and think it's a total pita.
