All,

I bought a Jena Sonnar 18mm f2.8 lens to use on my Nikon FF DSLR. When I test the lens there is very large hazy spot in the center of the photo when as the kens is stopped down. It starts @ f2.8 and gets worsened as the lens is stopped down.

To eliminate any sensor issue, I shot the same photo with a different lens under same conditions. And there is no issue with the sensor. Just to be clear, I'm not shooting directly into the Sun.

Any ideas?

It was a cloudy day and this was shot down from my patio on the 3rd floor.

Thanks to all for your responses and many thanks to Jim for the idea of light being reflected. Indeed that's what was happening and gaffers tape did the trick. I taped the reflective insides of my Pentacon 6 to Nikon F adapter (K&F Concept brand) and that solved my issue.

Gaffers tape is the best friend of a photographer - hence proven once more.

I'd not be replying to anymore responses from others as I found the resolution. Please don't think that as rude from my side.

Have a wonderful Sunday!!
Hi,

It's the same thing with racers, except we use a higher grade of duct tape. AKA, the 200 MPH Fender Fix. ;)

You know, Gaffer's Tape and Duct Tape is The Force they were on about in Star Wars. It has a Light Side and a Dark Side and it Binds the Galaxy Together! :P

Thanks for a very interesting thread. Still learning! :-)

One more thing that I learned today. Thanks Rob.
My pleasure. Sharing what we know is the best part of this forum.

Here's another example of how sneaky and tricky flare can be. When I finally figured it out it was easy to fix (and inexpensive), but the figuring out part was a minor ordeal.

Indeed. I was going crazy til the issue has been resolved. And I already ordered my flocking paper :) Yes, that would be more elegant and I can cut to proper shape. right now the gaffers tape solution looks like a kid had put plasters all over while playing :)
