I have 3 of the 4 fujicrons, The 16, the 23 and the 50mm. They all have the same problem.

The lens cap (I almost said something else) falls off all the time. In the bag (a thinktank turnstyle 20 and a mindshift photocross 13), in the pockets, ... everywhere.

Is there a secret for putting the lens cap on, so it will stay on until I take it off, manually?

The problem is far worth when the lens shades are on.

Probably not the answer you want, but throw on a good filter and leave the lens cap at home.

Pay attention the tie direction the release tabs face. Avoid them supporting the lens.

Replace it. I use one of those little neoprene hood hats.

On XF23, you can put the cap first, and then attach the hood, that way its impossible to fall, but needs the same steps, in reverse order, to put it off.

I have those same lenses and agree the lens caps could be better. I find that having attached the cap to the front of the lens if one then turns it clockwise just a little the threads bite better and it seems more secure.

We put a man on the moon 50 years ago yet it seems beyond the wit of man to make a good lens cap!

I feel your pain:-) I think the best would be to place the caps back into the box where it came from before you lose them and replace them. Almost anything else works better. The best caps from my experience are made by Breakthrough Technology (yes, the make great filters, but there caps are as good). They grab the lens better and have stronger springs. The caps also have holes at the edge in case you consider using a "leash".

just use a neoprene hoodie - forget plastic caps

I have the 23 and the 50, no problem with the caps, they stay put.

All lens caps are a pain. When I was backpacking a lot, I would found this to be a pain. There are a couple options. Wrap the cameras before you put them away. What I did was to buy a "filter stack." That is two pieces of metal with the appropriate filter thread for the lens. One of the pieces is the same size as a filter but is metal. Screw it into the filter thread and throw the cap away. A simple turn will remove it from the lens but it will stay on in your bag.

I don’t use caps anymore, just sun shades. But if I do use one, I give it a quarter right turn after attaching to ensure it engages the threads.
Yes, the turn seems to help

Thank you

The lens caps that Fuji were originally using were horrible. But since they've changed over to the more conventional "flat" style I really haven't had any problems with them falling off. All my "crons" came with this newer style.

I've replaced all my original style Fuji caps on my other lenses with the ones from Breakthrough Photography caps. They work great.

My biggest issue is misplacing them, but I'm not going to have them dangling on a leash as that would drive me nuts.

It’s my way.
