Welcome to The Weekly Image Thread

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT) and is open for submissions and discussions about images and processing techniques until the next Saturday, or the new thread is started. If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

The first flowers on our property appeared today. Some miniature irises and some hellebores that are not yet open. Warm weather continues to be in the forecast so perhaps spring is here, but one can never tell for sure here. The images below are in camera focus stacks. I used a tripod. What a PITA! Last year I purchased a Manfrotto Befree Giant. A nice little tripod. Unfortunately I could not get the Swiss Acra plate to fit so I had to use a Manfrotto plate. I should have tried the tripod in the store. With the column reversed the head was too close to the ground without fiddling with the legs. With the head upright it was too far from the ground for what I wanted. I should have adjusted the legs and used the column inverted. (Note to Charlotte, the legs were folded up instead of down to get the ball head to fit between the legs to fit in the bag, but you already know about that trick ;-) )Then I messed with the wifi and the Olympus Share app on my phone. Neither the rear screen nor the phone were all that wonderful in the relatively bright light. I needed reading glasses to see either as well. I guess I just need to get used to all of this and 'suck it up'! Well that said something went amiss with the focus bracketing. I had to enable the touch screen interface on the camera to get the wifi to work. I am thinking I must have touched the screen and changed something unknown to me. The first image is a stack of 15 but the second is a much smaller stack as a result. I would have to count the files to see how many but I did not.

relatively straight up other than the use of some 'clear view' filter in DXO.

use of hand drawn vignette and Nik Color Efex Color Contrast

I wasn't coming back until this weekend when I will have the pictures from my recent walks ready. But then I remembered that I still have pictures on the computer from last year and earlier this year because I thought I might still use them here .. So I found these pictures, mostly from trips to the Botanical Gardens late last year. … A while back several of you liked my picture of one of the bridges at the Gardens and I promised to show it from the other side. So here it is …

I'm not going to walk the trails with you today but take you straight to the aquatic gardens where children and parent enjoy the views .

A small shed next to the vegetable demonstration garden

Gate to the demonstration garden

Ford tractor being put to use ….

One of my favorite trees at the gardens

and finally a parting picture – not from the Gardens ..

I had more from December but they are part of a multi part story that I am not quite happy with yet and may yet share at another time. So I still won't be able to get these old files off the computer and into backup storage …

All of the pictures except the tree were taken with the M1.2 and the tree was taken using the M5.3. Except for the last two I used the mZD12-100mm lens. That lens has become my general purpose lens and has retired several older lenses and the Stylus camera, mostly. … For the tree I used the old 14-42mm FT's kit lens and for the dove the FT's 70-300mm lens. …

Stay Well …..

So DxO and you are best pals now? That's a radiant blue! But I like the more subdued second image best. It's a beauty.

I just want to add that it isn't nice to make fun of me and my upturned legs! ;-)

(Still don't like that case but the ifootage one is brilliant! But the strap lacks a shoulder pad and it can't be added because the strap is sewn on, but apart from that it's brilliant. :-P )

Slight exaggeration, but outside every grocery store.

Hi! I have children at home and need diapers, breast-milk substitute, food for instance bread, oil, rice, chicken, pasta [...] Help me! Thank you very much!

Looks like a wonderful place. People really seem to take part. I like the first image. The light seen through the dark. And the one of the old woman outside the hut is cool.

No, DXO and I will likely part ways in seven days unless I have a brain malfunction and buy it. It has better colour manipulation tools than PSP so I gave it a go and reduced the greens a bit. I used to do that type of thing with Lightroom, a program which I strongly dislike the design of. I still have an old version and may reinstall it for occasional use.

Here we have collection areas inside the stores run by the stores. The stores also have premade up bags customers can purchase and leave in the collection bins. You may have that as well. What you show reminds me of what I see in cities at the off ramps and stop lights only ‘manned’ by someone. If I have reason to believe the money will be used for the stated purposes I usually provide some.

A sad commentary on the state of society.

love the irises , the ones that Andrew post are phenomenal, take this with a 70/200m so no macro, but with some crop....

The Best Camera is the one that you have on your Hands.

Ay Mama, the first one is phenomenal/..

Great set.... the tractor is almost the same model as the one from i learn how to drive mine was a '65 ..... thanks for showing us this...seems like a great place to wander..

Strange thing....it is almost as the spots I saw in my trip to Milan, but that was way before Covid, and was from migrant people....

The focus stacking works well, Andrew. That's a helluva DOF, even for 4/3. To Hell with that wi fi to control the camera from the phone. And the touchscreen, too. Bollixed. I have both neutered. Of course, I don't have a cell phone, so why not. I got a wired remote which plugs into the M1.2....$8.00, U.S. It has a different plug than the M1.1, I have one of those, too. I liked the remote for my E5. IR, and easy.

I put my E5 away today. It's been sitting on the table with the other gear I use regularly. It was, I had to admit, taking up space and in the way. I took out the battery and put it in the cupboard, and shed a tear of sentiment.

How are the mighty fallen. Rich

This is too. All migrants. I wouldn't be surprised if their spots look the same all over Europe.

Good to find out about Charlotte's strange practices...

I am with you Andrew. Not a fan of tripods. All that fiddling about...but sometimes you have to

Both really nice images and both completely different. Always amazes when those little Irises pop up in a couple of days

Stay flexible

Always enjoy the walks through the gardens. Looks such a relaxing place to have nearby
