I bought some new speakers a couple of years ago because I like to be able to hear, mostly voices on videos or music, at times. The speakers were reasonable, probably to reasonable. They are Logitech Z313. The bass drives me nuts as it can't be adjusted! They have a remote adjustment for volume but that is it! I am ready to start over and get some I can listen to and actually hear the voices. Thanks for any help.

No idea on budget but you might want to look at a half decent set of headphones instead of speakers.

Ya, I don't know on the budget either. I have cadillac taste and a Volkswagon pocket book. Was hoping something under 100.00. I have a good set of headphones and they are much better than the speakers but that limits others from hearing.

I should probably even apologize for saying anything, but the subject of good audio from my PC has become my new passion. This is probably way beyond what you were thinking of spending... but for around 410 Dollars you go here...

https://drop.com/home

You get a Sennheiser HD 6XX... 220 Dollars

You get a Massdrop Grace Design Standard DAC ... 95 Dollars

You get a Drop O2 Headphone Amplifier... 95 Dollars.

Looking at the reviews / comments at drop.com ... most people that do that are happily shocked by what a super great sound they get.

410 is way more than you want to spend, I guess, but that’s what it would cost for a super great sound.

Oh, and Drop has an odd way of doing things. They wait until they have enough customers, then they send the order to Sennheiser. So figure a two month wait. But the HD 6XX headphones are widely respected by everyone that knows. Very good reviews.

One additional detail you may wish to mention here or elsewhere is any size limitations you may have for your environment. Do the speakers need to be on your computer desk or could mount them on stands to the side or the wall behind the desk? Any size restrictions on your desk if that's your intended location? Etc... Another related factor is distance from the wall. Some speakers are designed to "radiate" bass out the back. For those, the distance to the wall behind can become a factor.

As for specific recommendations, I only have a couple of higher end ones for a desktop environment. Those would be the iLoud Micro Monitor from IK Multimedia which go for $300 per pair. The other would be the S350DB 2.1 system from Edifier which also goes for $300. Even if those are well outside your intended budget, you can still search on them and see what other products may come up mentioned alongside.

If you are using Windows 10, in Desktop Speakers properties. See if there is an Enhancements tab and if you do, check if you have the Equalizer check box.

Thanks for the time you took to respond. About 300 more than I want to let loose of though.

Space is somewhat limited. Would prefer to have them on my desk. My desk is a rolltop.

I don't see any equalizer check box but did find 4 different settings for sound. One of them was subwoofer so I turned that all the way down. I will see if that makes a difference. Thanks!

I have a couple of sets of speakers in the office, brands are Edifier and Logitech. I can't remember the cost, but $55 ea. would be good estimate.

I'm pleased with the sound quality for movies, sound files and games, and consider that spending any more for office use would be a waste of money. The Edifier speakers are powered by USB, which is convenient. Each set has a manual volume control, which is essential for quick muting to receive incoming calls.

That is a shame the Logitech Z313 does not have a subwoofer volume dial.

It is one of the things I use on the old Logitech Z-230 my dad gave me.

The Logitech Z-230 has a subwoofer volume dial on the subwoofer itself.

I've got it hooked up to my daughter's gaming PC.

Take care & Happy Shooting!
:)

I think I need something with bass control too. Wonder if that is the same Logitech that I have.

I use these Bose speakers, $99 on Amazon.

Along with the Boom 3D equalizer program, $15, on a win10 PC, here's a screenshot of the control panel.

How is that working out for you?
I'm pleased with the 2. I tried various speakers over the years, at best they worked OK. The Bose has been the best so far, note - I don't expect an audiophile experience and I don't want to use a lot of desktop real estate. I do a lot of video calls, streaming to the PC, occasionally music but mostly low-level audio activities on the PC.

I wanted more control, mostly the bass & looked at various software equalizers. I installed Boom 3D about 2 years ago, it's a nice application. You select the type of audio you listen to (mine is set to movie) and the effect you want, you can also adjust the equalizer for any increase/decrease you want by frequency range and save it - pretty much what you expect from an equalizer. They have a 30-day free trial.

Have been lusting for this set of speakers for some time. Highly rated by audiophiles. Their assesment of the audio performance...Highly accurate tonal performance and accurate bass, not booming.

Creative Labs 51MF1610AA002 GigaWorks T20 Series II 2.0 (Amazon}..........

Thanks, maybe the software is all I need?

Just looked at them on Amazon. Really nice reviews and maybe just what I was thinking I needed. Thanks again.

Bass control (particularly when there's a woofer present) is important in a small room. Depending on the wall surfaces, there's likely to be strong resonances at ~100Hz that need to be moderated.

Many musical occasions are ruined because "outdoor" Eq. Is unsuitable indoors.

Calculation is Speed of Sound divided by Room Dimensions, e.g. 330/3

The built-in speak in my 2009 MacBookPro is crackling. I could probably fixed it but am lazy to do it.
Instead, I tried my 6 year old Samsung Soundbar and paired the soundbar to my MacBook by Bluetooth. The built-in sound system controls of the Mac served my purpose very well, good enough to listen to my DVD selection chamber music and classical concerts.

The Bluetooth allows quick pairing/ unsparing with any of my Bluetooth enabled devices.
I purchased a used Vivitar Bluetooth enabled soundbar for $10 which now serves a dedicated speaker for my Mac.
