Welcome to The Weekly Image Thread

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT) and is open for submissions and discussions about images and processing techniques until the next Saturday, or the new thread is started. If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

A fine set Richard. Love the two early morning images and also the evening one. All very atmospheric. Your helicopter? One way to beat traffic!

Is that lava flowing down the side of the volcano or shot up into the air Roy. Impressive indeed and a good thing not to live near.

Showing my lack of knowledge about this type of thing and volcanoes in general I looked up world maps showing volcanoes. My word there are a lot of them!

You must be his preferred lady now after the shot....lol...
He doesn't know about it. And he isn't my type.
.I think we are not as conscious about it as the women are...... well at least is what I think....
Nah, it simply doesn't happen to us. Never happened to me anyway and I've never seen it happen to a girl.

I like the dish on the table! Had to scroll the image up to look at the dish so that I would not go blind!
I like it too. The place is kind of a social club, same place where those noisy images of the outdoors music event were taken. Lots of bric-a-brac there. Mostly junk but there's the occasional piece that I wouldn't mind taking home.

Thanks Richard. A castle on a loch. Two for the price of one.😄

I think i were about 5 to 8 km from the top maybe less in a straight line.. of the volcano to the east of , the lava flow is to the west of the crater so i feel quite safe, but if it decides to behave like Mount St, Helens for sure i was to close..... thanks god different type of volcanos .... i took the lower pic from the same spot as i took the last ones ....

Pineapple plantation..... on the skirts of the volcano....wind blows from the north side....

Wow! So it is Pacaya. I found the right one. I found this map over volcanoes and earthquakes and figured it must be Pacaya.

Ah, you succeed with the 40-150 + MC-20. That's reassuring.

I had the wrong setting on the body for the raptor. It was set on SAF, "A" for landscapes and electronic shutter. I was photographing the horses when the bird flew by. It was too far away. I was lucky to do this well. The dove was closer. I switched to CAF, mechanical shutter, and sequential low after the raptor flew by.

I need the 100-400 for birding. I'll buy one. I borrowed one in November, think its a great lens.

I didn't do any birding this trip. I left for Nevada ~ December 15th, returned yesterday, March 3rd. My first extended stay in the area, I explored the landscapes. That's what I photographed.

I bought a house in Genoa. Liked the area that much. A new house, it won't be ready for occupancy until October 2022. It's on an east-facing ridge overlooking the Carson Valley with the snow-covered California Sierra to the south. An incredible view. I can hardly wait to get into the house.

That's a terrific set of images Richard. Especially like the misty dawn and the helicopter. It must feel good to be home.

Stay safe and well

Wow. That looks a bit too close for comfort Roy.

No, no self portrait this time. Sorry, Dave. ;-)

I have this grotesque and racist mug that I'd like to find out what it is. I've got into my head that it's a marketing thing. Is there or has there been a brand called Plantation Boy? Cocoa maybe? Google doesn't help.

It comes from that social club I've posted some pictures from before. I had helped out with cleaning up a room and was offered a compensation in form of healing or some other dopey treatment I wasn't interest in, so I waved the compensation. But then I recalled this mug that I had taken a liking to and asked if I could have that. So I worked a whole day for it. Guess I really like kitschy stuff. :-)

I saw it first when I looked at the photo at 100% here. It doesn't say Plantation Boy. It says Plantation BAY. It's a resort in the Philippines. Even found a picture of the same mugs here.

Not at all as fun now. Apologies for the noise.

It#s so good to be back yes. SWMBO and the cats, my own bed, the garden...and quarantine again

For those who asked the helo is not mine but i am thinking of taking flying lessons when we are allowed out to play

I thank you all for your kind comments and also thanks to those that just past by .... As I commented to Andrew that yellow Lenten Rose was an error. I always set my White Balance to Auto and just leave it there, mostly, but sometime in late January it got changed on the M1.2and since I always assume it's at auto I rarely check it so it stayed at 5400 which worked well for most scenes that I shoot in daylight under blue skies ... well maybe not so much on this overcast shadowy day ...

Locally I went to the Gardens again this week and the first buttercups are blooming so maybe Spring has arrived, for a while, as it is going to be in the 60F's today and into next week ...

Stay well ....
