Thanks, that explains it. The Disney photo was very good for ISO 800 while the others were a bit noisy, but not too bad given the 2/3 stop push.

Rick, did you get a chance to try out PhotoPro 2.0 with any SD9
images? In particular, I was wondering whether high ISO/low-light
SD9 images look better in SPP 2.0, whether SPP 2.0 changes color
balance on SD9 images, and whether the fill-light feature works
with SD9 images.

All the best.

I think it explains part of it. For sure ISO800 would be cleaner and it appears that overexposing gives less noise than underexposing. A good comparison would be ev's 0, +.5 and +1.0. The downside of shooting a plus ev is loss of shutter speed (or f-stop) which is what you are shooting for in the first place. But if the camera is continually underexposing a half stop, it would be better to adjust for that even given the"apparent" loss. More crucial is the subject matter and where it fall from a color perspective and how well it is lit. I think most sports/actions will do well at least up to 400 and in some cases more.

Rick.

Rick,

I see Canyonlands was good to you. I thoroughly enjoyed and found very informative all your work on these images.

The SD10 appears to be doing quite nicely. Will let eveyone else apply their critiques, but I find this camera very compelling. Is it possible to fall more in love with the SD10? My SD9 might get jealous.

Rick,

Thanks a lot for the report and the test shots. I find most of the SD10 images are excellent, but the panos are soft, which is probably due to the very limited DOF. What lens(es) did you use? At what aperture?

BTW, is IMG08294 ( http://www.pbase.com/image/22626640 ) Multnomah Falls beside Columbia River? It seems you went to a lot of places during the recent trip! :-)

The lens was the 70200 f2.8 tripod f8.The road might have had heat. I am not sure why the lake isn't sharper. There was some particulate matter in the air due to fires around North Rim Grand Canyon.

76mm f8 160th road
146mm f8 125th Lake Powell

I can't figure it out either.

I haven't made a judgement on the sharpness of the SD10 yet..waiting for some apples to apples tests by someone.

yes I regret not looking you up but carrying the 10D around made it difficult. I wanted to contact Dave Hughes also but decided against getting in touch with anyone...Next year...I have a rental in Aloha and will be going up every year to check it out (and shoot water also)!!

Rick,

Thanks a lot for the information. The hot air's blurring effect is obvious above the road, but the out-of-focus look elsewhere is really strange, given the aperture of f8. Is IMG07811 ( http://www.pbase.com/image/22626271 ) also taken with this lens?

After looking at most of the SD10 images in your gallery, I feel they are generally slightly softer than your SD9 ones, but I can't say it for sure.

So the truth finally comes out, you had been shooting 10d all these times and tell us that it was sd10...got cha!

Yes, he came to Portland and didn't visit me, sniff!
I lived in Seattle for 5 years and in Portland for summer 1979.
In 1981, we left Seattle to Rochester, NY for 4 years then to
New Jersey.

I know only two states (Oregon and NJ) ban self service at gas station.
Right now, I have no idea about Oregon.

I am curious about Oregon still ban Self Service at gas station??

Hi Rick

these is a stunning gallery which shows a lot of the potentials in the sd10. one of the issue that bother me most though in my process of deciding on this camera is not the sharpness but its colors. I am not sure what is it called. nerrow dynamic range, over saturation or contrast but one thing I do know that images look very dramatic with shadow very dark with hardly any details and led area very bright and vivid. In your gallery it seems to be less of a problem than others and in this gallery less of a problem yet but look at your image IMG07480.jpg the shadows represent this problem. . There is another thread running now where I have comented on it . There the sky are waaay too dark in all contrasty images.
well:
1 do you see improvement on this ground in the sd10

2.you have probably used fill lighton some of the images to overcome this problem - which one are with which without?

Thanks

ruvy
