Fz50 A mode

I'm looking forward to that John! I still haven't found noise reduction on this one but I read a lot about adding sharpening for detail and I'm not sure it has much nr on this one.
The FZ50 has a lot of noise reduction (the Venus III image processing engine is somewhat infamous for it). With a 10MP sensor of that size and age, that is sort of a necessity. You'll see it in case you try processing raw images.
I'm looking forward to sharing our settings! Well mostly I'm looking forward to taking a decent picture :) look how yellow that fence looks in that first photo!

Hi Albert! You're going to love this fact the screen has a histogram on it and I can't figure out how to get rid of it so I guess I'll leave it and try to make it peak in the middle 😆
You press the "Display" button until you have a mode you like. There are only one or two that have the histogram I think.

Hey, thank you! I got burst off of there and formatted the memory card to the camera. Will have to get the arrow off too. Appreciate all you help.

this is just a "hold me over" camera until I chose another "real = modern" camera :)

But!! The colors are amazing. The FZ300 was so dark and grey/green! comparatively. I'm so glad I returned it. Not sure if this is a Panasonic thing or a specific camera thing. Dread trying again and being disappointed.

But I probably will lol, at least they're priced right!

Yep, I finally got it because the screen enlarged and blurred and I could move it. But boy is it almost impossible! Very touchy. Glad it seems to work well on AF.

It could be sharper on the Exhibit photos, but overall I'm very happy with the $75 investment and it will good to experiment with f stops and shutter speeds.

thanks again!

The FZ300 has "vivid" color modes. Your mileage may vary with regard to color accuracy, particularly in connection with white balance.

This is an old CCD sensor with comparatively large color sensitivity in its Bayer filter mask. Modern cameras use filters with decreased color sensitivity in return for better light yield: they get along with less noise in the result and deal better with low light scenes.

While the higher color accuracy is generally attributed to CCD sensors, it is really more a result of CMOS sensors of the time having worse light yield, so manufacturers decided to sacrifice color against light to make CMOS sensors more attractive, and this decision has stuck when CMOS sensitivity caught up.

As an example for an early CMOS camera with good color reputation, the Sony DSC-R1 had a huge jump in sensor size compared to its predecessor without significantly better light yield.

So you'll likely not easily get as nice color with newer cameras as with the FZ50, but the newer cameras get along a lot better in not-so-bright light situations.

Thank you Dak! I tried vivid and I tried different filter effects as well on the fz300 it had a distinct gray and green tinge to all the photos. That fence that is new and is clearly yellow in the top post actually looked old gray with green on it. And I think that was at f 4, the alleged sweet spot for the camera.

I understand what you wrote and that's obviously what's happened I appreciate that! It leaves me wondering what to do to get a camera with good color range though. Dang it!

Yeah that fence is weirdly colored! Bird is too.

It would be nice to tell myself it was just that fz300 I had and be happy to reorder another one but this photo below from a random Amazon review has the exact same colors pretty much and the exact amount of not sharp edges as well I could have took this picture!

Not my photo! Green fences everywhere. Birds out of focus everywhere!

Seeing that made me realize I'm an average consumer and the average consumer just can't fine tune this camera to get the extraordinary pictures we see here. at this point I just want a camera that will be somewhat suitable so I can play with creative photos. :)

Thanks for explaining that to me, because I bought an fz1000 and returned it due to camera shake. But it did not have the color profile that this fz50 has either. Although it was considerably brighter than my fz300.

Did you try changing the white balance setting? I recall a suggestion to move 2 steps towards amber and one step towards magenta. And another just three steps towards amber.

Very nice pictures from your FZ50 camera!

And the camera's exif information shows there's no "exposure compensation" used.

I'll help with your previous post in this thread about your FZ50 camera's LCD display.

See my next post(s), I'll be making several to help explain some of the menu things.

Hello thanks everyone for your help. I'm beginning to think this icon means the flash is set to minus 2/3 but I still can't figure out how to access it. It is not the EV I will post the photos below any help is greatly appreciated!

What is -2/3 how to get rid of it?

The below shows how to use the "Display" button to adjust what is displayed on the LCD display (including how to turn off the histogram).

There maybe some various FZ50 pdf manuals out there.

The one I've download and displayed here is the below.

You do realise you could adjust this colour bias in the fine tuning of white balance options instructing the camera to give images more red or blue hues etc .

Back to bridge cameras......

Good start .
One of the reasons I still own and use a much older model Fuji bridge camera is the colour and the manual mechanism for zoom . A feature I miss now that video is so prominent in photography.

Hi, John! Thank you for all this! I did download that manual and am working my way through it. Had other things to do the last couple of days. It also pulls up an online manual when I ask a specific question, that's good because the downloads make my tablet memory overflow. All good except I need extra batteries.

Appreciate it! Once I get the case and some batteries we'll see what a variable aperture does on zoom :)

Take care!

Yep, tried that! It still wasn't as clear (light filled) as these. Plus having to change white balance or even consider it with every shot is a pain. The custom worked sometimes.

I actually think the photo of the bird at the feeder was in vivid or custom wb, he's really orange-y. even considering the sun was hitting him, compared to the photo below that the colors are a nightmare.

This camera - not that it's a great solution - takes much brighter, more accurate photos on similarly cloudy days. Giving me more information to add to my search parameters. :)

Hi Bruce! Yes, I did that. It sometimes took nice photos - like of the ships - other times it made stuff really yellow. Plus then you have an additional setting to consider every time you take a picture. Where's the white balance? I, in my humble consumer opinion, thought that was kind of ridiculous. Then again, I think I got a "poor" execution of the FZ300 people speak so highly of. The continual soft focus issues -yes even though it was low light, there was grass beside a bird, I did not hide close enough to the bird etc - was enough to convince me to return it. If I had more return options, I'd probably order it again just to see the difference! But I don't....so I'm really researching the next purchase now that I've got these experiences under my hat :)
