Why I will not buy and A1 and why I would buy an A7VIr.

Hi,

I am not a buyer for the A1, because I don't feel I need it's features. Well 4K 120P would be nice to have. But, I wouldn't miss other features.

My A7rII, bought in A7rII works fine for me. The largest issue I have with it is that I get a lot of color aliasing with my best lenses. I need more resolution to get rid of it. Or, I can shoot f/11, but that was not my intention buying primes.

I don't think that the 61 MP of the A7rIV makes a difference.

But, would Sony release a 90 MP camera, I would buy.
Actually the A1 specs suggest it has an AA filter and would help your problem.

Fake detail and aliasing isn't going to go down well on images networked to a media team.

That confused amateurs have previously requested and paid more for cameras without an aa filter is embarrassing.

Thanks! I have missed that! So, that essentially negates my argument.

I would agree on that.

I am pretty sure it was professional photographers who took the lead in adopting cameras that came without AA filters because those same cameras usually came with more pixel resolution.

By the way, I am a confused non-professional on the idea that the specs suggest it having an AA filter. Would you mind clarifying which specs suggest this?

Well it wasn't wedding or fashion pros for sure. No aa filter was a stupid trend.
It was landscapers (most of which are not primary income pros) wanting more detail only to find it tripped them up shooting buildings.
Not 100% sure on the aa filter, imaging resource lists it as having one.
Sony.com just says "Charge protection coating on Optical Filter and ultrasonic vibration mechanism"

My preference would be less resolution and less moire.

Moire is pesky to deal with. Somewhat slight reduction in resolution is a non issue.

Even a 24MP file is capable of a 40x60 inch print. When giving talks every projector used had lower resolution than a 24MP camera (8K is still rare out there).

Guess it has (educated guess).

Some amateurs are completly hang up on resolution.

And professionals are terrified by moire.

Remember when Canon and Nikon put out cameras with and without AA filters? It's a shame that didn't take hold in the industry.

...BUT!!! At $6,500 I would be sleeping with the Coyotes! And I married a (amazing) Italian from NJ!!
This is why I like the fact that all Sony cameras of each generation basically look the same ... LOL :)

They just morph slightly over time... 😂
Been there 😜

Seems like a pointless post. You are a landscape shooter are you not and the A1 is clearly meant for other subject matter.

The point is that I think that Sony needs to go forward with sensor resolution.

The A1 is obviously a very good camera. But, from point of resolution it is just 4% better than the A7rII that I am shooting right now. The A7rIV is a real upgrade, offering 21% more resolution.

Best regards

Erik
Maybe I worded that too harshly. Just seemed like an odd way to say you need 90 MPs.

I hope you get that 90 MPs because I'll get it too unless I get that new Fujifilm 100 MP first.
Hi,

It's more like I need smaller pixel pitch, or an OLP filter.

The GFX 100 has the same pixel pitch as the A7rIV. It doesn't have smaller pixels, just more of them.

In the end, I may end up buying the A7rIV.

A 90 MP a7R V will give you smaller pixerls and maybe even an AA filter.
