Next move up from my trusty old D5300

Thanks so much,Blufftonian.

I couldn't find reference to the top screen display being on anywhere, so I'm glad to hear from a Nikon user. Forum help has a positive value.

The closest I could find from Nikonites was D 7000 problems, but it was determined a bargain SD card or formatting issues caused a full ( ISO,shutter,F stop ) display when the camera was off.

Indeed, and when you think of digital LCD watches and how long their battery lasts, the drain is minimal. It's normal for Nikon's upper level cameras to have displays that remain partly on, all the time. Every Nikon I've had from my D80 about 15 years ago has done this

I’m with you. I only very rarely use the non-flippy ones! 😀

I've never used the "flippy" LCD on any camera I've owned so that's not even on my priority list.
Like the OP, I find the tilt screen to be extremely handy in situations where I have to shoot low or high angle shots. Great to have on my D7500. Love it even more on my Z50.

I don't think any DX camera would be significantly better than the D5300 for landscapes. Several are faster, but none are much better IQ.

How about the Z5 with the 24-50 and/or the FTZ and 50/1.8 AF-S? That would be an improvement, although a subtle one, as it's still 24 MP.

Very true.
BTW I am getting really good image Q from the 7500, and the front and back dials make using it a joy. Would have been a great choice for me right when it came out,but my wallet lags about five years behind new product :-)

And also when used with video (very good on tripod) and certainly macro.

Video?

These cameras can do video? :-D

The D7500 will give you a tilting screen, improved viewfinder, improved focusing, better low light IQ and a much larger buffer.

Yes, it does. I really like my 7500.
One thing I knew I'd like but didn't know I'd like so well is the dedicated buttons and control dials! No more scrolling through menus endlessly . :-)
