Thank you Sherm!

I fear any firmware update now. Recently I ruined my mother's Dell Inspiron M501R (bought in 2010) by installing a firmware update (intended for Win 7) on Win 10. The update ran into error in the middle and ruined the whole laptop.

Of course it's an old laptop anyway, but now I fear firmware updates.
I'm sorry to hear that! My advice is to browse on the net and if you can't fix it, to contact the Microsoft Service Center.

All the best,

Augustin

I somehow got the impression that you're a programmer just like me, and if that's the case, you should have known that firmware failure means big trouble - the cost to fix it can almost always get you a new machine. And don't worry for my mother: she finds her iPhone sufficient to do her computing tasks - stock trading, karaoke, WeChat, etc.
All the best,

Augustin
