Welcome to The Weekly Image Thread

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT) and is open for submissions and discussions about images and processing techniques until the next Saturday, or the new thread is started. If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

If you examine this sequence large, you will notice that the goalie stops pucks with his eyes closed! Just think how much better he would be if his eyes were open!

Today was a cold, overcast day, Tue 19 Jan. Winter in the Northern Hemisphere ….

…. but these days we need to get out for a walk and so we ended up at the Botanical Garden, which we had all to ourselves … well there were a couple volunteers who mostly stayed indoors as we didn't see many on our walk …. They have nice fireplace in the visitors center . …. but we needed that walk so we started out …

we've been here before on a warmer morning when there were others using the bridge … The Gardens are mostly trails this time of year and a good time to see trees …

and here the Camellias persist in all weather .

All pictures taken with the E-M1.2 with the m,ZD 12-100mm lens …. Among my thought for this year was to slow down and not post pictures so soon after taking them. This year I thought I might think a bit longer before posting and maybe improve the results … but then ….

Stay well ….. and I still have pictures of that worker …..

Not unlike some Chicago neighborhoods I remember .... ..

Stay well .... and get some tiramisu ..... or a cannoli ....

Interesting, as always, Andrew .. Hockey is one of those many sports that I neither played nor watch ... except here ... I enjoy the still version ... I had to check our local schedule. UAH, our local university, has had a pretty good hockey team -- at least according to the news they do win more than they lose .. but looking at this years schedule it seems they must be living, or maybe we have satellite school, in Michigan and/or Minnesota as I see no home games .... However, out arena is available in spite of the virus as I see that our professional hockey team is scheduled this month .... so it/'s not like I don't have opportunities ... well ....

WhyNot

Stay well .... I gather you're still in lock-down ...

Thanks WN.

Lock down here has been extended I think until Feb 11 currently. The surge in new positives in Ontario hit over 3500 per day a few days back but since then has dropped to 2500 then 1900 (round numbers). I suspect those are all related to holiday get togethers. A local mother was fined $850 as was her in laws for her dropping her children off for them to look after while she went grocery shopping. I am not a big fan of over zealous law enforcement. She was ratted out by neighbours and the police were waiting for her when she left her in laws after picking up the kids to go home. I think they could have issued a warning but did not. I had to drive my wife to a medical apt in Hamilton Monday morning. She had medical tests scheduled at a hospital. I was not allowed to go in so I spent 3.5 h waiting in the car parked in the lot behind a recreation centre. No where to go as nothing is open other than grocery stores, pharmacies, beer and liquor stores. I had to be careful what I had to drink during that time as there were no facilities to use should the need have arisen! The botanical gardens are closed as well as trails and parks. Really, nothing to do except walk and risk getting stopped by the authorities. The hospital was at McMaster University where I did my engineering degree. I took my camera and thought about walking around and taking some pictures but decided to stay in the car instead. I did not have the car running so it was cool but ok. I had a book and my phone for entertainment.

Ten months in now and no end in sight.

That is a very nice set WN. I am not sure how they could be better but you can be the judge of that. I like them all but especially the tree in the fourth. While driving I almost always see lone trees out in a field and would like to stop and look for images but don't. I should go for a drive and do some, after the 'stay at home' orders expire. Nice colour in the last too. No flowers here at the moment. Not even indoors as our Christmas cactus died. We had it for close to 50 years.

The first one I like a lot. It's a good image in its own right, so to speak. I can appreciate it and the composition as an image without getting hockey. In other words, I understand the image, even if I don't understand hockey. That must mean it's a great image. :-)

The three first go well together. They could all be titled symmetry, but show it in very different ways.

Can you see what's birds and what's just holes (crenels?) and cramps in the wall? :-)

The birds are jackdaws and they are invading the tower of the cathedral in Strängnäs. It's actually about a decade older than the one in Uppsala (~1260) but considerably smaller.

Nice stuff again

A few year's ago there was a documentary on BBC about cricket and how a batsman could possibly react and hit a ball bowled at around 100mph. All the top batsman siad it's about watching the ball onto the bat. Trouble is when they showed slomo pics of the point of contact nearly everytime they had their eyes closed...

Some good winter images here WN, despite the less than quality natural light. Love that bridge reflection

Near Binche in Wallonia is a bridge that is called Roman Bridge. It isn't but it is 12th Century....I am guessing as it was built in the roman style it got it's name

It's also very difficult to get a good image of as it's all fenced off fishing land

I was trying out my new toy - Leica 12-60. I like it

I knew it! Dang G Men and their cover ups...

It would have been nice to frame this a bit better, but I happened to be out for a walk with a 180mm macro lens - not exactly the most versatile photographic tool. Ahh well.

Great Set WN, like the one of the Bridge......

wow....wonder in some point the tower would be in danger....

nice ones.....like them a lot, as for the name could be that there was a roman bridge that was in bad shape and build one on top?,,,, just an idea... then again not sure if the Romans were up there ..... not sure where was the border of the empire....
