This is Street related ..

I needed to get a light reading off the Western side of the train on my way into the city.
There were noises (clack-clack) but I wasn't listening.
I was thinking about what to set my cameras to, ..the iso and battery(s) and such.

When suddenly I heard the person on the seat across the aisle. And because I was checking my light-meter. And leaning over the seat next to me (because my cameras sat there).
I might as well have been sitting next to her and taking her photo
(with a wide-angle)
(with an exposure reading that had already been set).

I was just checking the light when she said ..

"She is poisoning him"
"she is doing it slowly" ..she said to her friend on her phone

And realizing that she had said it out loud ..looked up startled at the exact time I was looking through the viewfinder.

I won't say if I took the photo or not ..but lets say I didn't.

Do I show it to someone ..or not

I often think there is something bad happening to someone

Am I guilty because I know about a crime and can identify the person as well as rescue the victim ..but say nothing

She could be talking about the foods they are eating. Like poor diet and related diseases. Maybe not actually killing him. We have family that we say the same thing because with their diet their health is not great.

Or poisoning someone's mind. Plenty of that going around these days.

An ethical dilemma. Street photographers have hyper sharpened senses, visual, auditory, etc.. I hope you took the photo.:) Funny how a thing like this will probably stick in your mind for the rest of your life, what if...

Sounds like an Agantha Christie novel.

Perhaps, you could have said something like "well, I know a guy who sells undetectable poison; would your friend like the contact info"?

I hope it was a figure of speech but you will have to monitor the news for someone died of poisoning but usually it's just an accusatory look if a man fiddles with camera next to a woman.

Maybe she was talking about a woman who feeds her husband bacon and eggs every day, or lots of junk food. Imagine if we were all at risk of being reported in some way depending on what someone overheard one-sided and out of context.

Better to save your imagination for photography! You have nothing to worry about.

I will not just say 'nice photo!' - if I like a photo I will say why.
I will not praise a photo that is dull, clichéd, or 'artsy'.
If you choose to 'ignore list' me or dislike me for being honest, that's fine.

There is zero evidence it is a crime from what you said. She is most likely saying something like her obese nephew is eating too much McDonald's and therefore his Mum is slowly "poisoning him".

On the other hand, if she said more and you are sure it is a crime then of course you are commiting an offense by not reporting it. But if there is any doubt forget about it as she is probably just exaggerating.

Not enough people get involved when they see crimes these days as we are so disconnected with the internet. In China it is actively discouraged to step-in and help someone being bullied or robbed. That will probably happen more and more in the West too. A good citizen should be prepared to make a citizens arrest.

fortunately this is my way out. I'm not a detective, not qualified, and no badge.

she looked up in alarm just as I was trying to take my eye off her (with a camera raised to my face). She looked real shocked, ..but admit, it could have been her shock seeing the big lens (and big camera)

a bloke that is not here anymore did this, a girl was being assaulted in a car and he was the bystander that went to her rescue.

I wonder if he knows he was once a hero
