Says who? Mark Twain and Charles Dickens. And the same houses exist today on the street: Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven, CT.

Maybe the most beautiful 150 years ago but honestly it looks like dozens of streets I've seen in my lifetime.
 
I know there isn't really a most beautiful one, but I was expecting maybe Lombard Street in San Francisco.
