After 2.5 years, and 80,000 +shutter activations, my GRII has stopped working as such. Last time I checked 8 months ago, it was 67,000+, but when I did a factory reset, to see if it helped with the problem, to my surprise it zeroed the activation number, so 80,000 + is based on the number of shots taken since then that are on my files.

Familiar problem - when the camera is turned on, the aperture blades don't open until you press the shutter button several times. Based on what I read on various internet sites, I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones that the camera lasted this long and never had the dreaded dust problem.

I shall miss the excellent lens and the fantastic range of customisation options that were available. First camera to die on me in 60 years.

I have to admit that the camera itself always felt a bit flimsy compared to Canon G, Panasonic LX, and Olympus prosumer compacts, and was treated accordingly.

yes I think 80,000 shutter count is higher based on what I have heard and read

and it is a LOT of clicks for only two years

I got my first GRII stop functioning with the lens stuck open issue so I just opened my first back up GRII (I have a second brand new back up GRII in its box)

so I can keep using the GRII in 2021

You should not complain, he has lived a long time. The GR is not as long-lived as Fuji's X100

where did you read I was complaining ???:-O

Plus you don t know how long I had mine

maybe your reply was aimed at the OP , yes ?

probably but for me not a valid point since I have zero use for the Fuji X , along with the GRIII ;-)

Well there is hope.

I've turned "AUTO POWER OFF" to "OFF". Now when I turn the camera on I have to take a blank exposure, this open up the aperture blades, and then everything works normally until I turn the camera off. This is irritating but manageable, as long as it continues to work.

I don't know where the special reference to Fuji X100 series comes in. It is a completely different beast. I think most cameras that I've used, and still using are better built and feel that way than the GRII.

common problem with this camera and with high shutter count. Well documented on the internet, ...

Reached the same conclusion, but thanks, I hadn't seen that page despite extensive searching on the net :)

out of curiosity, why not a GR III? Why the version II

Judging by your question , you must be new here LOL

When the Ricoh GRIII came out , it became clear that Ricoh had to make do with several features of the previous two models to make the body even smaller

It also downgraded the GRI and II in several ways all of it why being more expensive than the II

Here is a non exhaustive list

1/ No more back focus button which is so practical especially for street and candids

2/No more 4:3 ratio which was one unique feature for an aps fixed lens camera and did not save any cost for the manufacturer

3/No more one touch instant correct exposure in manual mode with the plus/minus button which was a very cleaver feature

4/ dead replaced by cheap rotating wheel " a la Canon"

5/ one less function button

6/ no built in flash

7/ incompatible batteries and accessories with previous models forcing current users to rebuy new batteries and accessories like the wide angle converter

I am sure I am missing a few :-x

For me the first two in this list made the new model useless as I shoot 99.99% of my images using the 4:3 ratio. points 2 and 3 on the list also means more missed or OOF shots for a modest gain in image resolution.

As I never put any camera in pants pockets , I do not care for the smaller size either but this is a question of preferences , I reckon

I am not sure but I think that they even took out the ONLY filter that I used which allowed to get great color for jpegs (it was called vibrant and one could think of it as a CUSTOMIZABLE vivid color setting )

This week I found a great price on a brand new GRII and I bought ONE MORE ;-) I have now THREE brand new GRII's so that should keep me covered for the next decade :-D:-D:-D

I have 2 GR 2's.

One with 21mm lens.

Lens cap and thumb rest.

About $10.00 each. Do a search for the items.

Louis,

PS. I may buy another GR2 in the need future.

It did well. I'd ask member Harold66 for a replacement. He keeps saying how he has more unused backup copies of the GR2 than could ever hope to put into use.

Hello Louis

I also have the thumb rest (though I am pretty sure mine was more than 10$ ) .I do not need the cap

I take about half of my images with the 21mm converter so I also bought a back up converter in case the one I have with me gets damaged , lots or stolen

Not lots of time left for another GR2 unless you do not mind getting a used one ;-)

Not a chance ;-)
He keeps saying ...
really ? the last one I got was this week :-O
how he has more unused backup copies of the GR2 than could ever hope to put into use.
well I don t know about you . I am glad sait got so many clicks out of yours but mine lasted also about 2.5 years but with smaller shutter count ( I think mine was about 40,000)

I have a GR also and I think in intense use , the camera probably has an average life expectancy of three years so not sure where your comment comes from

I figure I bought a decade worth of using the GR2 at which time I may be in worse shape than any of my remaining GRII's :-O :-P

Good you mention 4) the Canon wheel, was not aware of that. Had enough of it...

Ok. to avoid any confusion there was a typo in my point 4 because of auto correction software . the word "dead" had nothing to do in this point

I meant to write dead instead. the GRIII has a cheap rotating wheel like canon compacts , the GR 1 and 2 have a better , more practical dpad with 4 options , with the left and right size can be used as functions buttons
