Apotelyt seems to have the answer for the FZ50 but not for the FZ8, though I guess it might be the same for both cameras.

I enjoyed the FZ8 from 2007 to 2012, then sold it. Having since been through an FZ38, an FZ200 and an FZ1000, I now have an FZ330 which is very nice but I mainly use an Olympus Stylus 1s, being smaller, and my little iPhone SE (1st generation) also works well.

Then 2 days ago I looked at FZ8s on Ebay out of idle curiosity and to my surprise I bought an FZ8 for £25 delivered, on a whim!

Hence my question.

Happy New Year to any old friends on this Forum, and to possible new friends of course.

Does anyone know, please?

hi there I don't know but I'm bumping the thread so maybe

someone more experienced will catch it. what I do know is that I read that the camera shutter count on these cameras doesn't matter when I

was looking at eBay, that it's mostly a factor with DSLR. Please post some shots with your fun new toy and we will be looking forward to it I'm on the fz300 threads; best of luck! And when I Google how to find shutter count on a compact camera I pull up quite a few results this might help you:

Hi jlina,

Many thanks. My top camera is an FZ330 and the FZ8 will be a bit of nostalgia indulgence. :)

I routinely try to check shutter count on used cameras, just as an indicator of how much use the camera has had. A bit like the driver's seat in a car!

I try to find a set routine that others have proven, otherwise I might do damage fumbling around.

Somewhere in my archives I ought to have the FZ8 method, but I haven't found it yet!

I'll follow the link you have given me.

Thanks,

Mike

I have written to [email protected]

While looking there for the FZ8 shutter count, I wandered off-piste and found that it is like Dpreview, a fascinating treasure trove of camera information.

I am now following it on Facebook, as if I did not have enough distractions already . . . . :-)

Hi Mike! Well it looks like you're on your way to finding a solution, yes as soon as I figure out how to focus the fz300 perfectly I'm going to post on the Reddit photos myself. This forum is a wealth of information, glad you got some help and it's very easy to get lost in the rabbit hole of the internet huh LOL?

Have you tried this?

Hello Sherman,

It's good to hear from you again.

Peter at Apotelyt sent me the FZ8 Service Manual but I could not find the Shutter Count procedure.

So from a vague memory from 2007 (last time I bought an FZ8) I tried the FZ50 procedure as shown on Apotelyt and it worked first time.

It is very similar to, but not the same, as the FZ1000 procedure, the buttons are different.

Photo herewith, my new old FZ8 is a lot newer than my 2007-2012 FZ8 was!

It shows Power-Ups, Shutter Count, Flash Firings, but I don't know what "PSVCNT" is

What a jewel-like, iconic little camera the FZ8 was. Grossly under-promoted by Panasonic.

Last night I reset my new old one to factory settings, set iA mode and shot a few evening shop windows. Pretty good, I just had to change the EV to -0.66.

I told Peter at Apotelyt about my results and he replied:

"Dear Mike,

Thanks for letting me know. I have meanwhile added the information on
the FZ8 shutter count retrieval to the webpage, so that other FZ8-owners
can benefit from your research.

Best regards,

Peter"

So all good.

I doubt that I shall sell an FZ8 again.

Mike

Sherman - thanks, I have learnt something here! Again!

Belated Happy New Year

Mike

Thanks Jlina, it was a happy ending.

The FS15 is not one that I have seen or used, I started in Lumix with the FZ8 and ZS7/TZ10.

The ZS7/TZ10 is still the only travel camera that I have that sits comfortably on a belt, which is why I still have it. I have never bothered to upgrade in this range, the TZ10 gives me nice holiday pics etc.
