Hy everybody,

I'm looking for ideas to choose a new support to print b&w photo on (something like aluminium for exemple but I know that aluminium is not the best for b&w). Do you have any exprerience or suggest ?

Thanks in advance

Ciao

What printer do you have and what are you printing on now?

I am not exactly sure what you are looking for.

I will say though, that modern ink sets work very well on a wide range of papers not specially treated for inkjet printing.

I use both an Epson P800 with OEM inks and an old Epson 1400 with Piezography Warm Neutral inks to make prints on many different traditional printmaking papers and watercolor papers.

Mostly I use fairly smooth papers, but for some images papers with subtle texture is really nice. My favorite smooth papers are Stonehenge Warm (a warmer paper than any inkjet paper I have encountered) and Fabriano Artistico Hot Press. My favorite papers with a bit of texture are Arches Johannot and Hahnemuhle Biblio.

There are also methods for transferring inkjet images to other surfaces. Two books on this topic are "Digital Art Studio" by Schminke, et al. (see https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Art-Studio-Techniques-Traditional/dp/0823013421) and "Image Transfer Workshop" by McElroy and Wilson (see: https://www.amazon.com/Image-Transfer-Workshop-Mixed-Media-Techniques/dp/1600611605/).

I would imagine that there are lots of YouTube videos on this topic as well. However, I'm a book guy not a video guy so I don't have any recommendation there! ;-)

I have only experimented with image transfer a bit, but I have seen some nice work by others.

Regards,

I'm looking for a Lab using particular materials to print on. Something inovative like aluminium or wood as been in the recent past. I'm looking for someone who has discover that printing on a special material produce particular effects for the photo. Thanks in advance

I'm not familiar with labs in Italy but printing on aluminum panels and glass are available in the U.S. Printing on hand made watercolor paper can also produce some interesting effects.
