I currently use the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary on my EM1-X.

This lens is cheaper than the Olympus 100-400 and it has 200mm more reach.

I am wondering if the Olympus 100-400 would bring an advantage to me, compared to the Sigma.

After all, there must be a reason why it i is worth buying is worth buying it over the Sigma or Tamron 150-600? Or not?

The weight of the Sigma doesn't really bother me, so is there any other reason for buying the Olympus?

Somebody who used both lenses and can compare?

Sorry not able to answer your question as I've no experience of the Sigma, but I was curious which Sigma version, Canon or Nikon, are you using and with which adapter? If you don't mind me asking...

How's the AF performance in general?

The reach of the lens is quite attractive.

The Sigma 100-400 IS the same lens of the Olympus 100-400. Is lighter than the one you have and has less reach and is slower at 400mm. As you have experienced autofocus is not amazing however if you are only interested in the IQ you can buy the sigma lens

The Olympus will give you better autofocus, is weather sealed and has a tripod mount that the sigma 100-400 does not have

I use the Canon version with a Viltrox adapter.

AF is not very fast but OK. The bird AI works very well.

The combination shows a wrong f number in the camera (5.2 at 600mm while it should show 6.3), but no problem.

It is the correct number the speedboster increases speed 1 stop and the lens is now 420mm. It should show f/4.5 actually from f/6.3.

so you have a 106.5-420mm f/3.5-f/4.5 which is going to be 1 stop+ faster than the Olympus 100-400mm as you feel the sigma 150-600 is very heavy at more than 2Kg

It is the ef m1 smart adapter not the speedbooster.

It gives f5.2 at 150mm and f5.2 at 600mm.

I upgraded the sigma firmware, the viltrox firmware and the EM1X firmware, but still the same.

I have a metabones smart adapter then is identical to you it should show f5-6.3

What I wrote remains correct. You can try the Sigma 100-400 costs less than the Olympus is not weather sealed and has no tripod mount but other than AF being better is the same identical lens. The 100-400mm at 400mm is sharper than the 150-600 at 400mm but obviously it ends there is a shorter lens

How do you fund the AF speed of this lens/camera combination?

Can you use continuous AF?

The only adapter that supports CAF is metabones however the performance is not amazing on the 150-600mm this is because the lens is slow to focus also on a canon DSLR body

Not a good photo but taken with the Sigma and Viltrox with continuous AF, before the Oly firmware upgrade 2.0

Would be interesting to see the green dot in camera as it seems focussed on the table not on the bird.

A shot like that you take with procapture high at fixed focus typically has enough DOF

But the focus motor of a full frame lens wont keep up necessarily with the shot you will see if you have something coming or moving away from you

full frame lenses do at best 10 fps typical

So I can expect better when I use the Olympus 100-400?

Definitely as the rear focus elements of the lens have been redesigned and hopefully also the step motors

If you want to use CAF always go for a native lens for static shots no difference

I have a sigma 100-400 ef mount that I'm looking to sell/trade in the next few weeks. I originally bought the lens to use with my Sony A7iii but I realized I don't really like birding that much (I found the long zooms too combersom) and I much prefer underwater/scuba photography.
