USPS, Canpost, Fedex, UPS in MAJOR shipping crisis

I ordered something from Canon 10 days ago... it still hasn't left the warehouse! I called and they are "Extremely busy" - I guess at least the shipping will miss the holiday rush :-|

Ordered a couple Sabrent Rocket Q 4TB NVMe's for the sweet new rig.

Showed up in one day. Go Amazon, you lord retail king, deliverer of all things unto me!

Hey, hey. .... get in line. ;-) I ordered a new body from Focus on Dec. 4th - they got it posted the next day. I showed in NJ for almost two weeks. I got an update on Dec. 18th that it arrived in Bismark ND on Dec. 19th and that it left there on the 19th........... no update since. USPS - by the way. Of course once it leaves the dealer, they have zero control over it. Here's my shipping history. I know it's busy this time of year but this is crazy talk.

This story is all over most news sources.

There are no more "guaranteed" delivery times. So if you order something now expecting it this week, or even by Christmas, it very well may not happen. Volumes of shipments have sky-rocketed and only Amazon, which hired almost 250,000 extra workers since the pandemic started has more or less kept up. But they of course are not the end-link in the shipping chain for customers.
Maybe not; I've been getting stuff delivered pretty regularly.

Your package is moving better than one of mine, which has been stuck at the Springfield MA distribution center since December 13.

What your message means is that the package is still within the USPS system, but sitting somewhere on a truck (or in a bin, or...) in a backlog. Evidently this is pretty common this year. There's nothing we can do about it either. Complaining will make no difference.

I expect things will unjam in early January. I doubt that USPS keeps track of its trucks/bins/etc such that it can do first in first our inventory management. That would be too much work.

Delays for me at the Springfield center are nothing new. It's my bad for not paying a bit more for expedited shipping, I think.

In San Antonio TX, I find the mail to be flowing uninterrupted. FedEx was routine -from wine club in CA to B&H in NY/NJ. No hint of problems a/o 12/23.

Fedex can, and has, metered its inputs, so they could maintain performance levels.

Not surprised that USPS is moving normal mail normally, since its volume hasn't gone up that much, especially since fewer people send greeting cards these days.

So how are your packages going?

I contacted Canon yesterday and asked if it could be expedited... they overnighted it to me and I should have it in the next couple of hours!

I still haven't received the Sony body I ordered on Dec. 4th but yesterday I did receive a Pentax 67 kit I ordered from Japan. It arrived in 72 hours.

Read this morning that there are more packages than ever and more absent from postal work than ever, the latter attributed to the virus hitting hard on workers.
Of course, the reason for jump in shipping is the virus because people are not buying in person but online and shipping it.

Finally today after 22 days the camera arrived. Now it goes back unopened as I had advised the camera store that it was needed to start B-roll for a project two weeks ago.
