Hey there,

Just received my S10 from Systems Unlimited. The camera came with a "dead" pixel (nearly dead center) on the LCD screen. I called Systems and they will swap it out with a new when they come in stock. But my question is, will the dead pixel show up in photos, or is it just on the screen?

I might add that I think I may have fallen in love with this thing, if that is possible. I had been seriously looking at the Cp950 and the DC290. Thanks to these forums and the online reviews, I think I made the right choice for me. I have a Nikon 6006 so the S10 I think will complement it. I think if more people make the choice to compliment what they all ready use, the S10 will be the camera of choice.

No ,it want show up in the Photos, but you got a dead pixel on the lLCD>

Dear Eric,

When you are in review mode and you can see a photo, look at the dead pixel and press the zoom button. Then scroll around in the picture. If the dead pixel moves, it is the picture that has a dead pixel, if the dead pixel stays where it is when scrolling... then it is the LCD

Dead pixels on the LCD seem to be quite common in today's electronic devices. The replacement you get might have one as well. Sometimes the pixel is completely dead but more often it is "stuck" on a certain color. I'm amazed they will even replace the camera for ONE bad pixel. Laptop vendors stopped doing that years ago. Even if you get a perfect LCD there's no guarantee that it won't develop another one.

As a follow-up,

I talked to Systems Unlimited again today. The S10 was in stock and they issued a UPS call tag to pick up the S10 that I have. They have shipped the replacement without even receiving the old(new) one. That's a first for me anyway.

John, yea dead pixels on LCD's I guess can be common. But they shouldn't be dead right out of the box. The retailers should stand behind it working right out of the box. I own a large Landscape Construction firm. We plant tens of thousands of trees and shrubs each year. We have to stand behind each and everyone for a year. Even for "ONE" bad(dead) plant. Yea, it's a pain in the ass. But it was supposed to live, they paid for the guarantee. The customer deserves not to have to look at a brown plant, knowing it's supposed to be green.

Rick, it was just the screen. In photoshop, I could find anything out of the ordinary.

Heh heh.... I like your analogy. To follow that same thread.... lets say in the beginning it used to cost $10,000 for 100 perfect, healthy trees. This is because only 1 in 10 trees grew perfect and the rest were discarded by the grower. However, now you can get 100 trees for $1,000 but at the risk of 2 or 3 trees being dead right off the truck. This is because the grower need only discard 1 in 50 trees as being totally unusable. Which would you prefer ? :-) Neverless, I hope you get lucky and the new camera has no bad LCD pixels and most important NO BAD CCD PIXELS. Enjoy the new camera.

John, if you tell me where to get those 100 trees for $1000 and I'll give you the bloody camera. :).... I'm more partial to the imperfect ones anyhow. They have more character. And for that "perfect" tree, I've spent (or the clients have paid me) well over $10,000. Oh, I've never met a grower that has discarded anything. And thanks. I also hope this S10 comes in without any problems. The little that I played with it so far, I think it will fill my needs.
