Re: Exploring wide end options

I find that 18mm is the perfect FL complement for a 24mm.

Wider is often more difficult to compose well with and 20/21mm isn't different enough from 24mm.

I have the Samyang 18 2.8 (as well as some much larger and more expensive Zeiss and Leica UWAs) and think that there is probably some sample variation, as mine is very good in the corners stopped down a little. While the Zeisses and Leicas are "better" in various ways, I enjoy having the Samyang as a cheap, very light and tiny "always take along" lens, with very few regrets quality-wise.

There is the Zeiss Batis 18mm, which should be much better wide open (Astro), but also at a much higher price, more weight and much larger size.

I'd characterize it as a choice between a very good general use lens which will always fit in a corner of your bag, or an excellent performer (especially for Astro, etc.) which is less comfortable to carry.
