I am thinking buying one. I know this is kind of advance camera
but wondering if this camer can be used to take Normal pics.

I read the specs and lowest resolution is 0.9 meg. pixel.

Can I choose lower than this? for basic/Normal pics.

thanks.

Why do you want to do that? The lowest size I see in the specs is about 1.5 mp (about 1500 by 1024).

Why on earth would you want to do this?

It's sort of like buying a Lexus ripping the engine out and replacing it with one from a Corolla.

So I can shoot more pics with 128MB CF media and
its easy to upload/email when file size is smaller.

Depends on your definition of 'normal pics'..

Or to put it another way, why pay for a 6+ megapixel DSLR if you are going to take 1 megapixel pictures?

But to answer your question, the 300D/digital rebel has 3 basic pixel sizes, with two amounts of compression for each.

Approx. 6 megapixels
Approx. 3 megapixels
Approx 1.5 megapixels

No 640 by 480 mode or such. I'd take them in 6 megapixel mode and if desired downsize or crop them aftewards.

Remember, you can't recover data that isn't there, which is why some prefer to shoot in RAW, but my personal preference is for fine large..

Just so I can shoot more pics and its easy to transfer (upload)
when size is smaller, But for more serious events or hobby I can
still use the finest quality method (6meg).

Just wanted to know the how versatile 300D is. and was worried about
the media capacity.
So if its question of CF capacity, and how bigger I can afford.
1Gig or more probably.

But memory cards are so cheap, particularly compared to the 300D, it makes no sense to let that determine how you use the camera.

Keep in mind that a lot of the programs out there have an e-mail feature that will resize large pics to smaller mailable files automatically without altering the original. I use Adobe Photo Album for this and it works great.

Right, Ratdog. And also Photoshop Elements 2.0 that is bundled with the 300D kit has the same e-mail feature. So there's no need to buy / worry about extra software.

Hello.

If you are worried about 4 to 6 megs files and you don't want to invest more money into CF cards you would be much happier with a P&S camera. The Dreb takes some awesome photos and I'm sure you'd love the camera, but you will want to use all 6.3 MP.

You never know when you'll take that prise shot you want a large print of and if you just blow it with a small filesize and not enough pixels to do anything with you'll be kicking yourself.

Now its your money and you can do with it what you want, but if it was me and I was shelling out a grand for a camera I'd use everthing it gave me to give the best photos I can.
