Don't know about the price, but the Sigma 70-300 APO II macro has had a number of threads here. I bought the lens and am very happy with it. $169 from digitalfotoclub.com. If the kit alone is $1,000, then the kit plus the 70-300 seems like a pretty good deal. Be sure it is the new version, however, which is called:

70-300mm F4-5.6 II APO Macro Super

This is the only current version, but there could be some leftover stock from the previous.

Look through this forum, as there have been quite a few threads started on this lens, mostly with sample pix.

300D - It's a great camera, even if it isn't black
hey hey

dont know if there has been any discussion about this lens, but I
was browsing trough the ritz camera webpage here

http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=13102951&topCategory=1003&cat1=13001422

and they have a 300D package there, 2 lenses, the kit lense and
then a Sigma 70-300mm Autofocus Lens for 1130$

think I should go for it? :) anyone here has some experience with
that lens?

thanks in advance :)

Are you sure about the kit lens? The blurb doesn't mention it, just the two Sigma lenses. Without the kit lens, the "widest" you can go with the Sigmal lens is about 44-45mm.

You didn't check the 'package contents' did you? It doesn't include the 'kit lens', it includes the Sigma 28-80 lens and 70-300 lens.. Like this.

Package Contents:
  • EOS Digital Rebel Body
  • Sigma 28-80mm Autofocus Lens
  • Sigma 70-300mm Autofocus Len
  • Sigma Gadget Bag
  • Digital Camera Solution CD-ROM
  • Adobe Photoshop Elements
  • Video Cable VC-100
  • Interface Cable IFC-300PCU
  • Wide Strap EW-10DB II
  • Battery Charger CB-5L
  • Battery Pack BP-511
That 28-80 Sigma lens will only get you down to about 45mm EFL. The kit lens will get you down to 28-29mm EFL..

No way dude. It's a half-con job. The Sigma lens isn't the APO so it's very ordinary, and you don't get the wide angle kit lens. Steer clear of this one.

the camera cost 800$ body only, those 2 lenses cost 165$ on ebay for the kit...do the math..not a good deal!

this is not the 70-300 APO, it is the non APO.

you are much better off buying the 300D Kit with the 18-55mm lens..because the Sigma kit will not cover enough range and if you don,t buy the kit lens right now, you will never be able to get a wide angle at that price because the kit lens is not sold seperatly.

in few words..a very bad move.
