Post Your Wildlife Captures

Melanie, the warthog is really a looker. Its funny because when I was taking pictures of it, it tends to actually look directly at the lens for some reason. Maybe its trained that way :)

If you guys were wondering what lens I used, its the canon 28-105 lens which if I remember correctly was said by a lot of people to be soft. Mine was quite good handheld. Just some slight usm in photoshop.

Thanks for the comments. I hope I didnt scar the bear's reputation.
Ill let you decide what the bear is doing :)
That wart hog is a handsome fellow, isn't he?

Over in the 300D forum they have been posting Fall Shots. Well to
me Fall has always been outdoor wildlife time. Time to hunt elk,
deer, moose and upland game. Once upon a time that meant hunting
with a gun. Kind of sad killing what you love. So now it is grab
the 10D, head for the high country, stalk and capture an image. And
I can go back and do it all over again tomorrow and leave them for
others to enjoy. This is so much better and much harder. Hunting I
never worried about light and background.

So how about some of your wildlife photos. Also, tips, tricks and
stories.

Here are a few of mine from this weekends trip to Yellowstone.

Some of you have some great bird shots. I have tried a few with my
400/5.6L with kind of so so results. I'm sure some of it is
learning how to get close to the chosen subject. I'm also guessing
some of it is bigger faster glass.

What are you birders using?

Eric,

Nice work! South Africa is a wonderful spot for wildlife photography. I was there last year and got some memorable shots too. Here's a couple of many:

I may be slow, but I do poor work.

If I am as lucky with eagles as I am with hawks as of late, I'll be happy. Otherwise I guess I'll just be cold! LOL.

I love the Polar Bear the best! Every time I have tried to get
shots of them at our zoo, they come out too grey looking. Of course
they are always swimming and wet.. but they just never look that
great. Nice white Balance!

Thanks for the compliment on the photo. If I remember correctly, I metered off the fur, then dialed in a bit of +compensation to get the fur white, rather than gray.

This one scared the heck out of me. The beast was under water and lunged out of the water right next to me. Sort of like Crocodile Dundee but this was real. Wish the pic was sharper but I was a little nervous.

Driving between Tilliran and La Fortuna Costa Rica very slowly because whole sections of the outside lane of the highway had washed down the hundred foot cliff edge and we came across a whole troop of these. I stopped and rolled down my window to snap a quick picture and the entire group comes trotting over to the car. I found out later that tour bus drivers were feeding them scraps so they had something to show the tourists. Now they were so tame they approached all vehicles for tidbits.
