I have an A1000, a later model of the S9900.

I have experienced lock-up before, but that was because of low battery.

The following extract of the S9900 manual may help.

You may want to remove the battery and reinsert it to see if the camera will reset.

I did, few times , still the same . Not sure what cause this . I didn’t use it for few months . Thank you so much for your reply and care .

You are welcome.

This is really annoying. Perhaps talk to Nikon Services to see if it is worth fixing.

The only other issue that I can think of that could cause such malfunctioning, was possible moisture accumulation while it was left unused.

If you have somewhere warm and dry, like a hot water cylinder cupboard, you may want to leave the camera on top of the hot water cylinder for a few days to see if it will make any difference.

If you have enough patience, you can also use a hairdryer running a very low heat and try to warm up the camera body and battery compartment for half an hour or so. I did that for my grandson when his watch got a bit wet and stopped. I opened it up and took the battery out. The hairdryer did the trick to dry out the wet watch. It could work for your camera, if moisture was the issue.

Good luck.
