Warning when buying at Best Stop Digital

I found the Sony 505 for $855 and called to see if it was in stock. Best Stop Digital said yes and so I had it sent overnight for an extra $45. Well the next day they called me and said my credit card would'nt go through. B/S I told them and told them to try again. I called back 6 hours later and then they said sorry it a mistake and the camera was on its way. The next day came and went with no Sony 505 in my hand, this is where I am getting really mad!!! So I called back and inquired where the hell my camera was and then I figured out why they were stalling. The camera is on back order. They never had it at the time of sale and didn't want me to buy from somewhere else..... AAARRRGGG! So here I still wait 2 days later for my camera wondering if I should cancle my order and get it from some other company that has it in stock?????

I would cancel and go somewhere else to get it. If this is what the service is starting with, then who knows what else you'll have to go through.

Funny, I had a very similar experience with them...

The online inventory listed the camera in stock..I called and was told it was in stock before I placed my order...paid for overnight delivery...called the

next afternoon and was told the camera was sent out via UPS...and then finally was told after I called that evening at 8:00 pm that the camera was
backordered and was never sent.

Interesting business approach, hugh?

i was considering going down to best stop digital on friday to pick up the f505 in person (maybe save some money by offering cash and the intent to buy 2 at the same time)

i would like to know what the backorder situation is cause if they wont have two instock on friday then the plan wont work

you guys were way right i called just yesterday (not more than 24 hrs ago) and was told it was instock and was available!

just now i called and simply asked about the availablity of the camera.

I was told that it is BACKORDERED and not available right, i inquired as to how long it would take, the guy said it has been on backorder for 30 days now.

I finished the conversation by telling him i was disapointed that i had been told differntly just 1 day ago, however i was glad they were now being honest about.

He basically FELT LIKE A DIPSHIT when i told him i was only calling cause talk online was getting around that they were lying to cover up a backorder.

I have heard similar bad stories about EggHead. I ordered mine from http://www.pcwonders.com for $869. They have shipped it on time and they put the UPS tracking # online on their site. And I should be receiving it today . I think that is a good place to buy. The only thing I can complain about is that their shipping cost was a bit high. But my guess is it was something to do with 2nd day delievery that I ordered and it shows on UPS that they also insured it. Still it looked like the best deal on the net.

Sorry to hear others have been having a bad time with these guys, I picked mine up from them last week (and saw loads of boxes of the F505). I have to admit, they also had difficulty with my credit card when I first called, but it was explainable due to my residence in Europe and credit cards companies being cautious for fraud. I've also dealt with Onsale/Egghead for other products and was impressed with their slick fulfillment process, but Best Stop seemed to know about the camera's, care about my business, and they came through for me.

I called them back and wondered when they will have the camera in and the guy (who's name I won't use yet) told me by the end of the week. I want the camera this week and don't want to wait 8-12 days shipping from
Theweb-shop.com

Anyone know where I can order this camera for a good price and have it in my hands by friday?

I had a similar (maybe worse) experience. I called to order one day, told me it was in stock, ordered it. Called a few days later to get a tracking number, they told me the computers were down and they would call me back with the tracking number. Of course they never called me back. I called again. They said the same thing except this time they would e-mail me the tracking number. Of course, no e-mail. So I call back again, and they finally tell me that they are having problems and the camera could possibly be on back order, but if I call back the next day they could confirm it. Of course, I told them to cancel my order and forget it!!

BEST STOP DIGITAL HAS SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS!!!

ok i started by calling on two questions yesterday

1) Is the 505 in stock and available?
answer: Yes and Yes
REALITY: 24hrs later i am told that they have been backordered for 30 days

2) Are you a registered Sony Dealer?

answer: Technically our mailorder devision is NOT however we are a registered retail store and we work like other large chains do selling under our retail registered name so technically you are buying from a registered dealer.

REALITY(as of 5 min ago): No we are not a registered dealer, but we buy from a registered wholesaler.

followup question: but you have a physical store that is a registered dealer?
REALITY: no we do not have a store in manhatten just a mail order buisness only

i am tempted to call back and make sure they are still there tomorrow morning

Well it just keeps getting better. I called back after reading all of your comments and acted like a new buyer. I asked if the camera was in stock and if I could get it the next day. Well of course the guy said yes they had the camera and yes I could have it the next day. I asked him if he was sure he had the camera in stock and he said "Yes I am sure". So then I asked him to send me the camera I had ordered last Sunday if he had it in stock. It was silent for about 3 seconds and then he asked why I was calling him. I told him I wanted the truth if he really had the camera in stock because I was told it was on back order. Amazingly again he said he had it in stock and asked for me order number. Half way through my order number he asked me to hold on and he never came back.

This Really mad me mad but I kept my cool. I called back and talked to the manager/supervisor and told him my story. He said yes they have a problem and yes the camera is on back order. He said Sony is sending him a shipment in 3 days....Yeah right. Well in the morning I am going to cancel my order with Best Stop Digital and then get on the horn with the BBB of New York to report this type of sales practice. You all can try your luck with these people if you like. I did all of the foot work for you all so watch your back.
