Here's a couple of flight shots I took recently with the Dig-Rebel and the Sigma 300mm/F4 apo lens. I'm really liking this fast AF. The first shot was handheld and the second was taken with a tripod.

This was taken in late afternoon lighting against a clear blue northern sky.

I think this shot would benefit from a caption, like "Duck for Supper?" or something. Got any cute suggestions?

Great shot of the TV (Turkey Vulture). Did you use the "Sports Mode" for focus tracking.

Just think, if every key-stroke was a shutter-press we would all be pros by now...

That is a fixed focal length lens with a fixed f/4 aperture? How much did you have to spend on that lens?

Yes it is a constant aperture f4 (of course you can stop it down, but I'm limited to f4 with d-Rebel due to error 99. Gonna get it rechipped as soon as I get a chance, just having too much fun with it at the moment to part with it for 2 whole weeks! I bought this lens back in 1996 to shoot comet HaleBop with. I paid about $585 us for it at the time. It was the most reasonably priced Apo 300 back then and had great reviews. I don't think Sigma makes this lens anymore but I am totally satisfied with it's performance. It weighs about 2.6 pounds and is taking me a while to get use to hand holding for flight shots, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Here's a link to one of my HaleBopp film shots using this lens, it was taken on the day of the comet's closest approach to Earth(04/01/96):

I especially like the first image of the Turkey vulture- plenty of detail and nicely exposed. I have this lens too, but haven't had any 'blue skies' since the day it arrived :) Great photos.

Thanks for your comments! I know what you mean about lack of blue skies;

it's been cloudy and very windy here for the last 2 days and looks like tomorrow will be the same. Give me a break Mother Nature!
