If it turns out to be an M50 Mark II, what are the features folks here would most like to see?

Personally I'd like to add a dedicated macro body, so 32 MP and Focus Bracketing are musts for me :-) .

Considering it is using that battery, you would expect it to be a M50ii. Be interesting to see what specs they give it, as it will be cheaper than the M6ii.

I can’t see this camera having IBIS, that will probably wait until the high end m camera coming later this year.

With the M6 MkII and the RP using the LP-E17, which is just barely enough, I would guess that this new model is an M50 something.

Question is, if they give it the M6 MkII sensor and allow for uncropped 4k @ 30fps, would the LP-E12 be enough?

We shall see.

The first thing I’d want in an M50ii: an LP-E17. The smaller battery should now be relegated to the M100/M200 body styles! I don’t see why a smaller battery would continue to be used in the M50 form factor.

But maybe I am crazy about power... because the second thing I’d want is USB-C charging:)

I’d like to see that, too. I’d also like to use focus bracketing for landscapes, so I’d want a new mid range zoom that’s sharper than the 15-45 at a price I can afford, lol. Maybe there will be a price drop on the m6ii and I’ll change my mind about the evf.
 
Specs all point to a M50ii

Needs a new sensor if Canon want most M50 owners to upgrade, but i can see Canon doing a minor update.

Dual Pixel no crop 4k.

1/2 stop iso improvement

Extra dial

would be probably enough to get some owners to upgrade.

I want the LP-E12, as i simply don't want a third type battery type..... Or even the ones used in my R and 70D, I'm fine with those batteries too.

For me it should have IBIS.

For others it would need a newer sensor or a newer processor. It's useless to upgrade without one of those two being updated.
 
New sensor, new processor and IBIS... I am only guessing as I haven't seen any Jim Klasson-style current draw tests on the Canon IBIS system, but that might be the straw that breaks the LP-E12's back:)

Because it is cheaper. Not only is the LP-E12 a smaller capacity, but it lacks the coding chip present in the LP-E17. The changes may only save Canon $0.25, but they try to cut expenses any way possible.

I don't see that happening within at least a year. I think Canon will use IBIS as a big R-System differentiator for the near future (IMHO).

+1 I think an M50ii with an updated (faster) processor providing Eye AF could exist in harmony with an M6ii. They have very different form factors and followings.

+1 I get 2 hours continuous shooting (camera on the whole time), and about 800 shots with one LP-E17 in the M6ii.

A new zoom like this would really cement the M System as a viable intermediate system (between Phone and R). An f/2.8 IS version might be closer to $1000 US tho.

M6ii has Digic 8. So Canon could do a Digic 9 and keep the 24 sensor or Digic 8 and 32 sensor. But not both.

IBIS is not happening for M50 series. It will push it in to a higher price bracket unless this is not a replacement and a new line altogether.

And why wouldn’t a 9 or X support 32MP? Other DIGIC processors have support for multiple megapixel count bodies... the same DIGIC often supports Powershots, Rebels,M’s and at least the XXD line. The pro XD usually has a “+” or a dual DIGIC design. The current DIGIC X is used in the R5, R6 and 1DX III in different megapixel counts.

It would of course support 32mp, but there is a very high probability that Canon will just recycle their 24mp sensor.

And that is what DIGIC X is; just a fancy name for a dual/+ version of DIGIC 8. That is why the poser consumption on DIGIC X devices is so atrocious.

I agree with your conjecture, but at this point that is all that it is. The DIGIC X nomenclature breaks the pattern, so we aren't exactly operating on solid ground.

Of course Canon can throw in the kitchen sink but Cannot likes to segment its products so users pay more for stuff.

The M50 killed the M5 off. Canon wouldn't want it to kill the M6ii as well unless this is the last M body.

The T8i/850D didn't get the 32MP sensor, so there are no guarantees.
