Hello,

I know that you need to figure the FE lenses to be cropped 1.5 times on an APSC camera...but are the E Lenses listed as already cropped? Example: 50mm cropped would actually be 75mm, or is the 50mm listed already taken into consideration and is the cropped value?

Thanks a bunch!!!!!

Focal length is an absolute - it doesn't change based on the sensor size. The angle of view is what changes.

So a lens listed as a 50mm is a 50mm all the time. You just need to be aware of what angle of view any given focal length will produce on your specific sensor size.

But again, the focal length doesn't change. A 50mm doesn't "become" a 75mm.

Since I am new to cameras, seems that I saw some bad information somewhere. I will do some more research to better understand.

Thanks for the response.

It's a common misconception, and usually it's just due to someone using the wrong terminology to explain what's going on. Then when someone new to photography comes along, it gets confusing for them. You're definitely not the first one to get mixed up about it. You'll catch on to things quickly, though, once you start shooting.

So welcome to the world of photography. I hope you grow to enjoy it as much as a lot of us here do!

So, get your APS-C camera with the zoom lens that is offered as standard (most likely 16-50 or 18-135).

Then, when you decide you want a prime, look at the focal length you used on the zoom. And then, buy that focal length whether it is a crop or full-frame lens.

You had it about right in the first place, so I wouldn't do more research. A 50mm lens on an apsc body will give you a 75mm point of view, as if it were a 75mm lens on a full frame camera. This is often referred to as the Full Frame Equivalent. The 1.5 crop factor is multiplied by the stated 50mm lens value to give you the point of view.
