Got an email today from my local camera store saying half off on the E-M1.2, well half of full retail anyway. Three day deal. Glad I paid a lot less for my like new used one or I'd be hurting to see this price.

That is Amazon's and B&H's price today as well.

B&H notes that the price is in effect until August 15.

Looks as though they are clearing out the inventory.

Confess I'm impressed they continued to sell new copies of a 4YO camera for a long while after its replacement came out, so without the intervening corporate news this would have seemed pretty normal. Now, I can only guess the other factors at work.

Cheers,

Rick

I remembered being puzzled when at the release of the E-M1.3 Olympus said that they would continue to sell the E-M1.2 alongside it. I figured that was because the sensor hadn't been changed. I guess that isn't the case. I'm good with mine, although if I hadn't gotten the E-M1.2 I would have seriously considered the E-M1x tradein deal. I still have the E-M1 that I pretty much have stopped using. I continue to use the E-1 and E-3 though, in part because they are easier to handle with the larger lenses like the 50-200.

I got the same from Hunt's. If I wasn't in the process of trading in my old E-PM1 towards an EM-1 mkiii I would be really tempted to get a second mkii.

I paid $1,000 for a new EM1.2 more than a year ago with a trade-up discount and a store discount. It was the current model at the time.

$900 for a discontinued EM1.2 with the EM1.3 available is not a big discount from what the EM1.2 could be bought for a year ago.

Considering the circumstances, camera business in general way down, OLY company sale announced with final deal a month away EM1.2 prices are holding up very well. Proof its still a very capable and competitive camera.

I also received this notice. I read it as Olympus trying to sell off inventory before the sale of the company to recover as much of their investment as they can,,,, As I understand what they are doing they may have no part in the New Company. My concern is about service and warranties as the New Company without Olympus it needs to quickly reduce those losses and that may mean retreating to Japan and the Far East. … On the other hand I immediately placed my order for one of these M1.2! …...

Enjoy! My E-M1 pretty hasn't been touched since I got the E-M1.2. It is a big step up from the original.

Interesting, Kim. Since I always have a gripped em1.2, I find my 50-200swd more comfortable with less overall weight than using the lens with my E-3 or E-5. Regardless, I always hold the lens with my left hand, so that hand & arm always get 90% of the total weight. My right hand is used to steady & level the camera body as well as press the shutter button.

It's more about the carry than the shooting. I always keep my hand on the grip when carrying the camera. The larger bodies are just more comfortable to carry that way, especially the E-1, which seems to have been meant for my hand. The flat inside of the grip and thickness are just right for me. It makes it very easy to carry it in one hand even with the 50-200 mounted. The E-M1.2 grip has the flatness of the E-1, which I welcome, but it's not as thick. I don't feel like I have as good a grip on it. The E-3 is a little bit in between. The grip is large but more rounded. It's secure, but the E-1 just tops them all for comfort and good grip.

They cleared inventory at both B&H and Adaroma where the camera is now on back-order, 6pm CDT, and the price is once again $1399 ! ... I guess I would expect more such sales before the first of the year when the company sale is to be complete ...

The message I got from Mike's Camera hinted that there would be more flash sales. I could see something similar happening with the E-M5.2, E-M10.2, E-M10.3 and E-PL9. I have to wonder about the Pen-F though. It still has some cachet.

Legally in most countries they can't shed liability for warranties and parts. Olympus carries that warranty liability and it is factored into the price. Typically the buyer assumes the warranty liability but is compensated for accepting that liability.

Olympus does need to sell as much inventory as possible before the sale terms are final. They will have to discount inventory far more than this kind of price discount.

Olympus will probably have a small stake in New Company.
