Hand-held HDR on EM-1 Mk3?

I am very happy with my EM-1 Mk3 which replaces one of the first Mk1 brought to Toronto. The current DP review reminded me about the Dynamic Range issue. It would seem trivial to use this multishot alignment feature of this camera that powers LiveND, focus stacking and HiRes to offer a defacto HDR. Did I miss this feature in learning how to use the camera? If I did please let me know. If it is not built-in, but there is a way of getting the camera do it anyway (a workaround), please let me know. I realise that nothing stops me from taking a bunch of shots on a tripod and processing them to HDR. I am talking about the hand-held option. If this option is not currently available, could we try to lobby Oly or the new owner to implement it? It is obviously just a software issue - modifying the focus stacking feature. They do not need to generate the final image, just capture the images that could then be processed in HDR software

Have you followed everything in manual p83? There are certain qualifiers, such as it only being available in PASM modes. Probably have an incompatible setting, e.g., the wrong shutter mode.

Good luck!

Everything works fine now guys. Thanks. If all else fails, read the manual - I should have paid head.

Actually you wouldn't have had to, but with the E-M1mk3 Olympus decided to take away the HDR opton from the top half button (where it was on the mk2) and leave it accessible just in the main menu.

I wonder if it can be reassigned back.

You can reassign at will. I assigned HiRes to C1, LiveND to C2, Focus stacking to C3 and HDR to C4. Check the user manual on how to do it. Basicaly, you turn the dial to C1 (say) and then you choose the type of HDR you want to assign from the menu. That's it.

I meant reassigning to the specific button where it used to live on the mk2

Damn, that is going to annoy the hell out of me when I upgrade. I use the current HDR option a good deal.

You can reassign, but unfortunately it only gives you the HDR choices running across the bottom of the screen. With the mkii you got 2 parameters for the price of one button press, since you got something like White Balance across the top as well.

This has been raised by a number of us during webinars with various Olympus employees during lockdown: it might be possible to offer the mkii-style setup as a menu option. Another complexity to the menus for people to complain about, of course... 🤣

I too was disappointed with the change. I assigned HDR to the exposure compensation button (which I never use as i have exposure compensation assigned to the rear dial in PAS). I find it is actually more convenient than the HDR top control on the Mark I/II, and allows me to quickly compare HDR and non HDR shots in the viewfinder with minimal delay.

If you are wondering about upgrading from the II/I to the mark III, don't hesitate. The additional features are very worthwhile.

The one limitation that saddens me about the built-in HDR feature is that you cannot use it with the silent shutter. It has to engage the mechanical shutter. I am not sure why they designed it that way.
