Really nice, but seems like not the best match for "minimalism in nature" if that is the challenge you are talking about. But should be a keeper independent of its success in this particular challenge.
That would likely work. With the luxury of 3 entries, I tend to waste at least one shot for "noteworthy, but likely not meeting the challenge all that well". After all, it's not all for the prize money but also because of the fun.
Definitely a wall hanger Greg. I am pretty perplexed with this challenge, as being that I am artistically challenged, I am just not sure what defines the "minimalism in nature". I tried looking it up, and the definition went right over my head.
Well, this is not a particularly good shot. I was attempting to shoot Jupiter and it's moons. I am surprised at what I actually got. This is cropped pretty heavily.
Given it was 387,030,650 miles away (619,249,040 KM), I did not think that was that bad.
Jupiter and 4 of it's moons
I would try for the comet, but I don't have a view of the sky in that direction.
Awesome. I've been shooting Jupiter since Comet Shoemaker-Levy slammed into it. Too bad I don't have as good an aim as the comet. Now, there is another comet, but, the better view is with Venus in the Hyades.
I am thinking that my cheap tripod is just not solid enough. Lots of motion blur in my shots. From what I am hearing from Alwyn, that comet is pretty hard to see with the naked eye, and my aged eyesight is pretty bad. I may see what I can find. I wonder if I can actually make out the rings of Saturn. Astrophotography does not seem to be my forte.
At least you tried it, maybe tomorrow I'll look for the comet with the bright NYC city lights turned on all over ... and come to think of it, no appropriate equipment.
Well I was disappointed but not because of the light pollution ... something just as bad or even worse ..clouds ....the forecast was for clear skies in the evening ... there was a couple who were also waiting to see the comet .. at least they live nearby and can come back quickly .. me, I took the subway from northern Queens ... I took a few shots of the offending clouds and the light pollution on the NJ side ... going to check the same spot tomorrow .. will check the forecast first though ..
A shot below, only reduced in size
That spot of light is an airline flying into Newark Airport .. my heart skipped a beat when I first saw it ..

I'd say lots of uncluttered space (the stuff that compresses well in JPEG). Obviously sky photographs with single small objects would meet that definition but are probably a bit too easy. Sea/ocean would also be an easy background. A large barren plain with a single tree. Maybe with snow/mist so that there is no grass or other structured detail.
