Who are you people?? (OT I suppose)

Retired, formerly executive assistant to Exec. VP of Marketing at worldwide company. Married, widowed, remarried to someone with 5 children. Now have nine grandchildren, too. My 3100 was on a tripod for this photo, hit self timer and ran. Had just returned from my 55th High School Class Reunion. I see I have a droopy eye, and on only one drink! Aging, I guess.

Now that everyone's jumping in I guess I'll have to dip my feet in the pool.

My name is Parham, I am an Iranian born in Teheran and posting from Teheran, Iran. When I'm not here, I am either in Geneva, Switzerland, my second home, or traveling for my job to places like Copenhagen, Athens, Dubai, Istanbul and pretty soon Rome.

I will be 40 years old in a few days and I head a Danish pharmaceutical company in Iran. Previous to that, I headed a Swiss pharmaceutical company here but I've also worked as an investment banker in Switzerland , a management consultant, a web strategist for an Internet start-up (don't ask me what that is, the people I worked for chose that title for me), but then I started my career as a radio station deejay and later music director and station manager in Florida, USA. I've done a lot of other jobs which I will not bore you with. Heck, I've even delivered pizzas.

The USA was where I spent much of my sweet college years before moving back to Geneva to do grad work. Academically, I am a psychologist, I have a BA in French lit and a minor in photography. I also hold an MBA.

I started photography around the age of 11 but it has been an on and off hobby for me since. I have won a few small prizes for my photos in yesteryears, but those prizes never amounted to anything serious. Nowadays, I snap whenever I have free time, and I read this forum to learn more. A friend of mine who took our hobby very seriously is now a very famous photographer and sometimes I do envy him and his skills. But I guess everyone must go his own way... If you're interested, you can find his we site at the following URL: http://www.chayan.com

Now for that picture of me. It's not a self-portrait, as I have never taken any, and I usually don't appear in photos anyway (not that I am invisible or anything, just that I don't like to BE in photos. Er, make no mistake). One of the only pics where I'm present is the following picture of me, my six year-old devil and my (much) better half.

I chose this picture because:

1- I'm in it.

2- If you don't like my face, you can look at those of my immediate family members who have better features than I do. OK, perhaps my son's facial expression needs some adjustment too.

Btw, I'm the one on the left of the picture.

And never mind the quality of the pic, it was probably taken with my wife's SQ on backlight scene mode with forced flash at ISO 1600. And you know what? The person who took it probably never heard of NTF...

Regards.

I started out in the space business for 10 years, my own business for 10 years and 25 years last month at the current job. I'm a sales/application engineer too old to retire early, but when you're having fun why turn loose.
Just was at a nickel mine in Canada this month, a mile underground -

will be in Sweden, Norway and UK for a couple of weeks the end of Nov.
on business of course, but I will find time for a few pics.

Took this pic on the way home from the lake with my 2 boys yesterday.

Am 53 yrs old, am a divorced father of 2 teenage boys 16, and 14. (I claimed irreconcilable differences, still do;) Ex and boys live just 2 miles away, a good thing. Been financially independent for 17 yrs, don't ask, and PLEASE don't hold that against me ; ) Live in Ft Wayne, IN, am in fairly lousy health, and need the love/companionship of a good woman, (never got that when I was married, lol). Thnx to a good friend, was introduced to computers when I left wife, and digicams shortly after that. Afterall, what else are you supposed to do with a computer anyway? Have built my last 5 computers myself. Am totally consumed day and night with all things related to photography. Is that a bad thing?

Now I'm getting curious!

I still can't see BLV's pic because I get a "Forbidden" page sign everytime I click on the link in her post.

Is there a solution to that?

I tell ya, curiosity is killing the cat.
Just kidding, of course, as I am confirmed (condemned) bachelor.
Hope you don't get offended by me saying: Wow, you're a hottie!
(that is meant as the highest possible compliment).

Hey Parham

Try left clicking on the link and dragging it to the address bar in your browser. Worked for me.

I thought I'd get away with just being in the older thread, but I see lots of folks coming in for a second round, so I'll be game and show myself for the new people on NTF ;-)

I'm 40-something and have been involved in photography since I was about 8 years old and my dad gave me some sort of Twin-lens Reflex--don't know what kind it was or where it is now, sorta wish I still had it! Got my first SLR--a Yashica--in high school and my first Nikon in college (an original FM) and its all history from there. I'm an avid birder and traveller and love combining the love of the two to travel to some pretty out-of-the way places. Here's a shot of me with a friend sitting on the trans-Ecuador pipeline a few years ago:

Oh, I work as a web producer/project manager for a major internet medical publisher (you've seen our ads on TV, especially if you watch Fox a lot!) I am awfully efficient at my job which leaves me with a lot of free time during the day to sneak a peak at NTF. Entirely too much time, perhaps!

I am 43 years old, deeply married and father of 2 fantastic boys.

I am also a ex-military pilot converted to the less violent paces of airline transport. My passion for photography is old, but not until recently have I become "super-photo-active", as a result of the versatility digital offers.

I believe the never-ending sights over our small blue sphere worked as catalyst for my deeper dwelling into this hobby:

"I fly swiftly through the skies,
at speeds my ancestors would never have dreamed of.

Up here, space and time hold their hands together
to mimic our flimsy existence on earth.

The perspective over the small, little things
further etches our ridiculous sense of grandeur and importance,
built upon such manly but fragile endeavors.

Incessantly, the vast Earth and its beautiful blue enclosure
offer never repeated images of radiant vibrancy.

They renovate at a pace that is sweet-hard to endure,
as the exquisite shapes and overwhelming peaceful structures
vanish over a perpetual volatile canvas.

If only I had a camera…"

So? Was she pretty? :-)

Just kidding.

It's still not working for me. Oh well, I guess I'll pass then.

BLV, if you're reading this, it would be nice of you to post a pic from PBase, one that would actually show up on this board, so we could discuss God's artistic merits, you know.

Cheers.

What a cast of characters - from young Ping to old Jarrell! By the way, Jarrell, your smile in your lower photo was with lips pressed together. Was that because you still hadn't replaced the missing teeth shown in the photo above? ;

At 69 I consider myself ancient. My interest was renewed in photography this year with a purchase of my first digital camera, a CP 5700, which I've found to be extremely versatile. I retired 2 years ago but then started up a tiny company marketing tools of my own design. I've been a chemical plant design engineer, family practice physician, medical missionary in Africa (7 years, with thousands of unsorted 35 mm slides), chief medical officer for Calif. state prisons, and now (not yet successful) entrepreneur. I have absolutely no knowledge of photo processing techniques except "auto enhance" and am just beginnning to look over Neat Image because I like to take photos at high ISO.

For about the past 4 months I've really enjoyed learning about my CP 5700 and digital photography from all of you with so much talent and knowledge here on NTF.

Excuse me for all the wrinkles and blemishes, but, if you had faced all the elephants, snakes, mosquitoes, Tsetse flies and criminals that I did, you might look like this also. ;
