What are your Pre Order plans for the new R5/6 based on CR

I would never pre-order a camera. The price isn't going to go up. I'm not buying a hot IPO stock or a collectible. Wait for it to hit the shelves, reviews to be made and issues to be made obvious. Go try it out in the camera shop and then buy one. If they sell out, more will be made shortly. Canon has great manufacturing capacity and inventory management.
Maybe true in normal times. But the virus has slammed manufacturing supply chains, and there is no vaccine yet, so it could be affected more. If you want an R5 in the first 3 months, you might want to preorder.
The virus has slammed most working people pocket sitting at home. So I don’t know how many have money for new cameras .

that is the argument i have made many times in this forum but there are few that still think things are as usual. even if this camera is priced at $3500, that is the household expenses of an average family in a month. but then again, there is the good old credit card, silly me ;-)

Most working proper weren't buying $4000 camera bodies and $x000 lenses when the economy was booming.

A lot of really important and expensive gear came out in 2009 and sold well. I think things will be fine

When has a top end, pro camera ever been targeted at an average consumer?
True true... however following the money argument... In this period how many pro photographers might be more budget conscience? Surely most don't have the same work load as last year?

The R5 would usually be the event photographer's gear. A lot of events are cancelled. AFAIK at least.
they just dropped Rp to $999 with lens for them.

i don't have the statistics or data to show how many canon 5Dmk4 are sold but from discussions here in the forum and hearing from friends, including professionals, one can get the idea that quite a few of 5D4 units have been sold and it was a $3500 camera when came out! it will be the same with R5 when it comes out--we'll never know many units will be sold in the next 4-5 years! but i could be wrong, though, no way to find out.

I want to wait and see how it performs. I'm confident that it will be better than the R, but if it isn't a LOT better as a stills camera I'll probably just stick with the R for now.

The R is a great camera and I feel confident with it for my work. Upgrading to the R5 isn't guaranteed for me at all. It's quite possible that the camera I am really waiting for is still waiting in the wings over at Canon in the form of the R1 or R5s.

It's not really about the price either. It's more a question of necessity. What does this camera do better than what I have already? I believe it will have crazy good performance, but where are the big advancements placed? Will AF be better? Stills image quality? Or mainly video?

It remains to be seen and I have no problem with using my R in the meantime.

What are your plans IF you like what you read on full announcement.

Interesting times!
Being a Canon and Nikon shooter from the late 80s, , I have no concern pre-order the Canon gears, and I have been doing it, only got burned once so far with the 1D MK III which is absolutely a horrible one, the camera went back to the repair center in south California not once but twice but still came back as piece of junk. but this time being a Canon mirrorless I will not pre-order but will have to wait until I can actually get my hand on one to play with before I decide if I want to buy one.

Yea, I could honestly hold off on the R6 until we travel again, which prob won't be any time soon. The R pretty much does everything I want and need

Took the R for an extended test drive after I scored a great deal on a used body and the Ef mount adapter. I like it so much I'm shifting my Sony gear to get the R5. I'm preordering the second its available. Hopefully I can get it in September as I'm guessing it'll be in short supply for quite some time. I almost bought a Blackmagic Pocket 6k for raw video, but the R5 will serve me better in both stills and video, plus it'll allow me to consolidate my camera/lens lineup and workflow. None of the 1dx3 "gotchas" bug me outside of the size, OVF, fixed LCD and flippy mirror. I'm just not into DSLR's and 20mp isn't enough for me. Anyway, I'm expecting something similar from the R5, some warts but none that are dealbreakers. I'll have plenty of time to evaluate all the blogger hype before preorders open. But it'll have to be a major turd for me not to buy.

Cheers

Chris
