I ordered my 70-200 lens from Dell on September 25. The order now shows "Currently, one or more items have been discontinued and require your attention. Please contact your sales representative for further details."

So, obviously the lens has NOT been discontinued, but Dell is trying to get out of the deal. Do I just let it ride and see what happens? Do I give them a call?

Then tell them no, you don't want to cancel. If you've had second thoughts, here is your 'out'.
(It appears as if Dell is losing a few $$$ on every purchase of this lens!)
Only you can answer this question!

'Don't hope your pictures will 'turn out' ... make them good to begin with'. Oft said by my late father.

I didn't know Dell sold camera gear. What is the link?

You posted just before I did on this very subject. I have already emailed Brenda informing her I still want this lens. I am willing to wait -- not only does having the non-IS version help, but being out of the country for several more months ALSO limits the desire for it to hurry. :)

Just hoping Dell does not automatically cancel the order. Not sure what else we can do but tell them we still want the lens.

I think Dell is using these tactics intentionally to "pursuade" people to cancel and get dell "off-the-hook".

I'm leaving my order alone until the order shows cancelled then, if it does, I'll call the Texas AG office.

I ordered mine on 9/22. I even called them last week and after talking to about 3 different people coerced one of them into talking to his supervisor to upgrade it to Next Day for free.

I am sure your orders will be cancelled finally whatever you do.
It happened to me too many times if the deal was hot.

YES! I WANT THIS LENS! I was hoping to have enough money put aside to buy one at around $1600 next year, so I definitely want the lens for the $1170 promised by Dell.

Dell have camera gear on their web site. They had this lens posted last month at a REALLY low price - maybe in error, or maybe as a loss-leader that took off better than they thought. They pulled it from the site at then end of September.

Check the status with Dell 800 phone, it may say otherwise.

I will never again deal with Dell. I don't care if they have the best price. The deal turned into an ordeal. I'll write BBB a complaint on Dell fraudulen deal.

now says same about call your sales rep.

Thats pretty funny about the upgrade. They can agree to anything but won't do any good if they never supply the product.

Even it is typo error.
They had to honor the order.

My country had cases like. But the company honor the order who has already pay the money.

I have given them my credit card information, but they haven't charged the card, so its unclear whether I have actually paid anything.

to me if the card hasn't been charged, then that would mean they haven't collected a dime...............or are we missing something here?

I don't know. I spoke to someone on the phone at Dell. They asked me for my credit card number and information, which I gave to them. They then sent me a message by e-mail confirming the order, complete with the correct Canon part number and a delivery date. Is that enough for a "contract?" If so, they can't just cancel the order. But if not, they can cancel any time they want and I have no grounds to complain.

Note: this wasn't a simple typo on their web site: it had been up, and accepting orders for about a week before I placed my order - they had the chance to say "sorry, that item is incorrect and we can't take your order."

Well, I have a reply from Dell, saying that the item is still on backorder and they have made a note in my file that I don't want to cancel. Lets see what happens!

It just doesn't make sense. Why only some % of the orders have been changed from "delay" to "call your sales rep"? Wouldn't Dell just do a full scale, complete update of ALL open orders of this item to "call your sales rep"? I suspect that it probably has something to do with differing consumer law in different states. Of course, we can ask some consumer lawyers prawling these forums to respond but I don't think we have such luck. So, I would be interested to know from those whose orders were either changed to "call your sales rep" or "cancelled by Dell" to respond with which state you live in.

I live in California and my order I placed on 9/24 is still showing "in production".
