Which L-plate are you using on your D850?

On the D800 and the Fuji I got the RRS, very well done, no doubt, also very expensive, again no doubt, now I am looking to get one for the D850 (looks like the D800's might fit but not allowing access to the ports on the left side of the camera), what's your experience, any other brand which fits well and does the job for a little cheaper?

I'm using the RRS I used on my D810. Which is likely the one I used on my D800. I don't use the ports, and really I don't use the L-plate. But it's on there anyway.

I've heard good comments on these on DPR and would likely go this way if I bought another one. Cheap. I'd suggest reading the reviews.

A Canon G5 and a bit of Nikon gear.

All cameras are so good nowadays, that the good stuff is kinda "given" or "expected". It is the limitations that get to you when you use them in real world situations. Windsurfer LA

It won't.

You are right, it doesn't, depth of the bottom of the camera apparently not the same so it won't fit into the plate.

Hi!

I got started started using RRS years ago, partly because of the quality and partly because they were local (they've since moved from San Luis Obispo to to Utah).

Plus, when I was able to visit RRS in California, they were always very nice and helpful, so I have some loyalty on a more personal level as well.

Sure they are expensive and one can make the argument that nearly identical, and in some cases better options exist from other manufacturers.

But I just like having all of my support gear rom one vendor.

Should have mentioned, I'm using the one for body + grip.

After checking out the ones listed at B&H the RRS looks like the most suitable nonetheless the 180$$$

Started with a Kirk but bought the RRS because it had the QD socket. Both are excellent. No discernible difference in quality

Don't know what a QD is but I looked at both Kirk and RRS and for the price difference I'd rather stay with RRS, issue being that at this moment in time nobody from the US is coming to here, I usually take advantage of friends coming to get me stuff from the US which I can't get over here (Italy) or which is way more expensive here, I guess I will have to find a way and be patient

Another fan of 3LeggedThing.

I use their L plate, fits both my D850 and my X-T3 and also use their Winston Tripod. Very good products, highly recommended.

QD is a quick detach socket for mounting a QD sling strap like a Magpul. It doesn’t require a screw attachment and some find it more convenient or more secure. Some RRS and now some later Kirk l brackets have qd sockets. If you are not familiar with them then they will most likely not be useful to you.

I don't have a d850, but I've bought sunwayphoto and another obscure brand for 4 other nikons. All worked perfectly, custom fit, all ports function fine - and the total price is likely less than one RRS. I've read that RRS recommend their plates as they're the only ones that fit their heads perfectly, though that will only matter if you use a QR clamp.

I can see the value in exotic tripods and heads, but not in a bit of right angled metal with a chamfered foot.

Great comment well made. :-)

I am using the pro-media gear L bracket for my D850 - PLND850. Their products are great and really high quality. The side can be slid out.
